GTA won't even start

Featured Replies

Hey guys, for some reason GTA IV is not willing to run as an administrator when I select this option. After I select Run As Administrator, I see the usual black window with one flashing white underscore in the top left-hand corner. Right as the window with the "Play" button appears I get an error message stating that "Grand Theft Auto IV has stopped working". I have included a dump log (feel free to comment if you see something that is incorrect) as well as a screenshot showing the error message that I receive. Any help is appreciated!

The mod looks like it's running fine, does the game run unmodded? (Vanilla).

Does it work without running as administrator?

It runs fine unmodded, but if I left click on LaunchGTAIV the error screen appears right as the black window appears.

Why are you running it through that rather than just a dekstop icon?

For some reason I don't have a desktop icon.

It is a legitimate copy and it is patched to 1.0.7 right?

So when the game didn't have the mod installed it worked fine when you launched it that way, but now that you have installed the mod, you can't launch it the same way without it erorring?

Could be related to games for windows live launching with the mod. Did you install xliveless (I think it's an option while installing the mod)?

Yep, it was purchased on Amazon.com. I installed 1.0.7 right after I purchased it. Let me try installing xliveless and see if it works.

Sadly, I am still getting the error screen even though I installed xliveless

I'm just guessing pretty blindly here but it doesn't sound specifically mod related since you haven't gotten ingame and that's all I can think of.

It doesn't sound like a save file error either because again, you haven't gotten ingame yet.

Can you run a diagnostic? http://www.lcpdfr.com/forum-20/announcement-5-need-support-read-this-first/

What diagnostics would you like for me to post? I have already attached a G17 dump log.
