Game Crashes Upon Start-Up

Featured Replies

Hey all! I saw the LCPD mod and had to purchase the game and download the mod. Unfortunately, after downloading the mod, the game doesn't even load but crashes. The game worked perfectly before installing the mod.

I've researched this website for two days straight, watched the video, and will to the best of my ability give everything needed. Bare with me as I am new to all of this.

1. I purchased the game from, Direct 2 Drive.

2. I tried to download the latest patch but a window pops up stating that I don't need it.

3. I downloaded and installed (several times) .NET Framework 4.0 and C++ and ensured that everything was up-to-date.

4. To the best of my ability, I took the "before posting" advice and ensured that several of the files were in the right place.

5. Ran the diagnostics test and came up with Zero errors.

6. I'm running everything as an Admin.

7. Installed and uninstalled the game and mod 4 times.

8. Deleted dsound.dll from your GTA IV directory, then reinstalling LCPDFR with xliveless. This showed the most promise as the game actually started and got all the way to the "load" screen...then crashed.

9. Please help so that I can pistol whip bad guys. Thank you.

The Error I'm getting when trying to load the game: "Grand Theft Auto IV has stopped working" ...then, "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

The reason the game didn't start is because you need to download and install Games For Windows Live (GFWL). Just run a Google search. Now, in Point 9, you say it got to the loading screen. Would this be the loading screen that shows what mission you're on? If so, it could be a savegame issue. If you have any saved games, try deleting them. Remember to play the first mission before starting LCPDFR should it work.

Hi, thanks for the reply! GFWL was already installed. There aren't any saved missions because I didn't play the game...kind of. When I first purchased the game I did test the game and drove to the guys apartment...then I exited the game and downloaded the LCPDFR mod...haven't gotten it to work since unless I re-install the game and do not re-install the mod. So, no saved games...I actually hit the "cancel" button as it was sending the "Grand Theft Auto IV has stopped working" report out and it told me the error as to why it wouldn't start, maybe this will help.

"Exception EFCreateError in module DSOUND.dll at 000116c5. Cannot create file "C:Program Files (x86)Rockstar GamesGrand Theft Auto IVasilog.txt". Access is denied."

Make sure you are running LaunchGTAIV.exe as an Administrator, and also check to make sure that your GTA folder is not set to read-only. To do this, right click the Grand Theft Auto IV folder, and hit Properties. Make sure that neither of the two boxes at the bottom of this dialog box are checked.

I was just going to say the same thing. make sure that you are clicking the right file when you install 1.0.7.0. You want the one titled "Update Title" and be sure your running that as admin. If you are, i recommend a fresh reinstall of the game, and update that before you install the LCPDFR mod. Make sure thats the last thing. Then, when installing NETFRAME, or C++, make sure your using the 64BIT version

Hello all! Thank you for the help. My computer crashed and I spent the better part of a day reloading my OS but upgraded to windows 7. I then spent the better part of a night trying every combo possible and got LCPDFR to work. BUT I have another problem now. The game is running slow (choppy) and I'm not sure why...I updated Direct X and graphics card...set game to lowest graphics setting...it still starts to get slow after the first mission. So yes, I can play the first mission perfectly and smoothly but eventually it starts to get slow and degrade to the point where I can't play. I thought my computer was good enough but maybe not?? Any help please? Thank you!

Your computer appears fine - make sure you have no background programs running when playing GTAIV. Leave your settings to the settings the game assigns, through the benchmark tool.
