Zmodeler2 and OuterEdge Lightbar Question

Featured Replies

I've got a couple of modeling questions, so you'll have to bear with me. I'm the newbiest of the newbies when it comes to modeling cars. I've got somewhat of the basics down, but even then, it's like pulling teeth. So I'm trying to apply this OuterEdge lightbar to my Tahoe, but it's really testing my patience. I looked at the handful of Tahoes that have this lighting set up, but even then I'm still wondering how they made it work. Has anyone applied this this "lightbar" to a Tahoe?

My issues are these:

  1. Scaling the lightbar so it is flush to the Tahoe, but doesn't compromise the "realistic" set up of the lightbar.
  2. Copying or mirroring the OuterEdge for the OTHER side of the Tahoe.
  3. Also: Is there anyway I can select ALL of the parts of a model? Like a glass piece for a lighting unit AND the lighting unit?

Any help would be appreciated. If I need to post pictures, I will. I'll keep tampering with it just in case I have some sort of breakthrough.

Thanks!

To select all of the parts, go to Select>Quadr and click on the "Selected Mode" button and make sure it's red (or press space). Good luck :)

Don't forget to select the collision and LOD models too :)

EDIT: Right click to use "Quadr" forgot to mention that.

I assuming your going to fit this on top of tailgate right? If so you would want to select the outeredge and be in selected mode, then go to modify-> scale. (make sure the x and y axis are enabled at the top right) Now go to the rear view (click the upperhand left box to change one your windows). Now you can scale and move the part to the right dimensions and place. (switch to a side view to move the edge to be flush with the tailgate).

Now go to create -> copy, MAKE SURE to turn the y axis off, then click and drag in the REAR VIEW the copy you have made to the other side of the tailgate. What turning off the y axis will do is assure both of your edges are perfectly parallel to each other when moving the copy.

After this your going to need to attach the parts of the original and copy together (have the parts not selected and selected mode off). And after this move the heirarchy of the combined edges into part of the heirarchy that contains the tailgate. What this will do is make the lights move with the tailgate when you open it.

Good luck, hope I wasn't vague or long winded. :)

Just an update: I was able to figure out how to select all the parts and how to copy and mirror objects to the other side (thanks to those who helped!).

NOW: I downloaded the OuterEdge that TraumaPak made that said it was specifically made custom for the Tahoe...just not the Tahoe I'm using haha. If anyone has tinkered around with this, just throw in your two cents. My problem lies in getting the OuterEdge lights to remain straight back while keeping the unit from going through the back windshield. I'm tempted to scrap this OuterEdge and start searching for another one.

Thanks,

Well the "lightbar" or lighting set up I'm referring to is this: http://gtapolicemods.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2147

I'm going for a "tactical" high-speed; low-drag slicktop set up. It's similar to what the agencies around my area use.

Update: I scrapped the OuterEdge idea, as it was a GIANT pain to get them to scale properly. Instead I replaced it with three Whelen Ions on each side of the center brake light.

Now, the next problem I have is with the Whelen Vertex LED lights made by Corleone. I have added the textures that were supplied with the Vertex, but when I imported the Vertex it is appearing in the game as white. I've tried removing the textures and the models, adding the textures and models back again, so on and so forth. This didn't work at all. My next plan of action is to sacrifice a chicken. Sooo...has anyone else used this Vertex before? What in the world could I be doing wrong?
