AMD FX-8350 Vs FX-6300 For Gaming?

Recommended Posts

I just got the fx6300 and an asus m5a97 le r2.0. its not bad though I don't notice much "performance" difference from me intel 2 duo quad core q6600....im even running 10 gigs. Now I do get better FPS in GTA IV but on arma 3 different sources say an intel i7 is better. I am thinking of upgrading my video card again (the 3rd time is the charm) but I havnt found any info to say the 8600 is better than the 6300. so I would save the cash and either buy the 6300 or save up and get an i7.

I am upgrading some of my parts on my PC, and was wondering if the FX-8350 is worth the extra money over the FX-6300 for gaming?

I am with Lincoln, I would save the money for an Intel CPU like the i5-4670k. You don't need an i7 for gaming unless you will utilize the hyperthreading capabilities, for CPU intensive programs or programs that require hyperthreading.

I forgot to mention, I want to go with AMD not Intel.

If you have the money and the correct slot and wattage to run the 8350 in your computer, you should probably go with the 8350, then. It'll do better than the 6300, but the 8350 is also much more expensive. If you want to save a little bit of money but not get as much performance, you should go for the 6300. Of course, you will still get performance, but not as much as the 8350.

For less than $200 ($175), you can get the FX-8350. You should get a CPU cooler/fan, but that's not necessarily required. You can get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for $30 with the mail-in rebate, and I've heard the EVO is very nice. You can also get the ASRock 970 Extreme4 motherboard for under $100 ($80 with mail-in rebate).

That will put you at $285, with mail-in rebates used, $300 without mail-in rebates. That leaves you with $200 if you do not use the mail-in rebates. Since you're getting a card used, you might want to consider the NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti, which I'm sure you can find for $200 or less if it's used. Now, that is just an estimate, but I feel it's a close one, because brand-new 660 Ti cards are only about $230. If you do not want a used card, you can spend a bit more and you can get this MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB which is slightly more costly, but also a little bit better than the 660 Ti. The card is only $200 if you send in the mail-in rebate, $230 if you do not. The R9 280 also uses a lot more wattage, unfortunately. You can try to find an R9 280 used, of course, if you'd like, too.

Hopefully that helps a little bit. If not, or if you have questions, feel free to ask.
