Overclocking My CPU With AMD Overdrive

Featured Replies

Ok, So i want to overclock my CPU with AMD overdrive but i'm not sure exactly how high i could get away with.

I have a AMD FX-8120(8 Core) Clocked at 3.1ghz. What do you think i should overclock to THAT WOULD BE SAFE FOR MY COMPUTER. Let me know if you need more info.

Specs:
AMD FX-8120 3.1ghz
AMD Radeon HD 7670
6GB Of Ram
Windows 8.1
   - Let me know if you need to know more information.

Edit - So i went ahead and overclocked it to 4.1ghz and when i ran the stability test it began to run but then my monitor froze up. However i can still hear my PC running and it has not shut off yet so i'm going to check it in an hour to see when the test is complete.

You can overclock CPU only if you're a wise guy in Hardware and have nothing to lose. If you're not... you better go read other wise guy blog about test and advise they made...

I have an ADM FX 8150 at 4.0Ghz AMd are not the best to overclock  read carefully...

Mindness: You don't need to be a guy working in Hardware to overclock. Only if you want to OC to like 7GHz i would say.

XPZ: I have a FX-6300 running at 3.5 GHz Stock and when i game it will automatically go to 4.1 GHz because of AMD TurboCore. You can turn on Turbo Core in the BIOS settings, and you wont risk any parts frying or burning out. For the FX-8120 the TC speed is 4GHz.

If you want to OC higher than that, then i would get a decent cooler if you have the stock one, since temps will get higher than normal.

Well I've done some overclocking with AMD Overdrive on my old computer and it for sure helped. I clocked my 3.2Ghz amd phenom 2 x4 to 3.6Ghz but that sucker heated up fast and prior to getting a new cpu cooler it would reach temps that shut my system down when gaming lol. I heard of people getting their phenom 2s to 3.7-8 but it was always unstable when I tried 3.7, for example the "monitor freezing", blue screens/etc. I'd also check to see if your motherboard doesn't already let you do some OCing in it. So it really is up to you and what you can handle when under full load and pumping out heat.
