Any Free Programs Like Sony Vegas?

Featured Replies

I am looking for a free professinal video editing program kinda like sony vegas. I am currently using windows live movie maker and its terrible it makes the video files really huge which takes alot of time when uploading youtube videos and the editing options are terrible.
I want something that will allow multiple video editing layers with the ability of "Pip". If you guys know of anything and can help i wouldn't be able to thank you enough.

There aren't many decent freeware editing software out there, your best bet is Google. I did a quick search but it looks as if they're all mostly the same as Windows Live Movie Maker (in terms of tools). In regards to your large file size, use a compressor, such as HandBrake, to compress videos to a lower file size without a loss of quality.

I just want to say thank you! The program you suggested is amazing! I took me from 4hrs of uploading to 1hr. (3.01GB ----> 1.26GB)

3GB? That's pretty large, how long is the video and what format are you using to render? Glad I could help though!

They are about 20min+ and because it movie maker i have no format options i just use the "For High definition display" which puts it in 1080P by default.

That's true, I forgot about that. You can edit the settings a little bit with Movie Maker though, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the save movie option you'll see "Create Custom Setting". If you want to lower your file size even further I'd drop it down to 720p but it's really up to you if you're happy with one hour upload times. I know I would be, it's take me around 10 hours to upload a 1GB file to YouTube, lol.

When I was looking for a free video editing program I always came over the name "Lightworks". It's entirely free. It's said that even some Hollywood movies have been cut with Lightworks. I haven't used it so far because I use Sony Vegas but it's worth a try, I guess.
