Losing a lot of textures and FPS drops

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

The problems I am having include texture loss occurring more often and FPS drop when I come close to another Police/EMS Vehicle.

I have a gaming laptop that I bought just a few months ago. Specs listed below.

Processor: 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB

Memory: 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz

Hard Drive: TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD

My Resource Usage is always 302 / 2048. I cannot get it to use more memory which I feel like is needed to let the game run better.

**** Is there a command line that will make this game use more of Resource Usage that will then help my game perform better? ****

The command lines I use are...

-fullspecaudio -nomemrestrict -norestrictions

My current GTA settings are...

Video Mode: 1920x1080

Aspect Ratio: Auto

Texture Quality: LOW  ***(For a brand new computer with a decent graphics card, I feel like this is too low?)

Reflection Resolution: LOW

Water Quality: LOW

Shadow Quality: OFF

Night Shadows: OFF

Texture Filter Quality: Tri-Linear

View Distance: 40

Detail Distance: 40

Vehicle Density: 25

My question is, with a brand new gaming laptop with a decent graphics card, I only can run this game on low with still getting texture loss and FPS drop when approaching other police vehicles.

**** Is there a command line that will make this game use more of Resource Usage that will then help my game perform better? ****

**** Also, is it a problem that I updated my game to 1.0.7? ****

This FPS drop is killing me. Is there anyone with a similar setup that can share their command line / what they do?

I have the GTX 680M in mine and I can run the game on high settings without issue (so the game most certainly works fine on laptops), but the GTX 750M is an upper-mid-level laptop gaming card, and might not be enough.  The GTX 750M != GTX 750, just like how the GTX 680M != GTX 680.

This is the commandline I use:

-reservedApp 0  -nomemrestrict -norestrictions

I'm not sure if that will help you any.  Only difference between yours and mine is that I use the -reservedApp flag, which theoretically allows the game to use more memory .  If you have a lot of car and script mods, any system will eventually start to bog down substantially.  How many mods do you have?

Regarding 1.0.7.0, that's the patch you're supposed to be on, no issues there.

I am in a LCPDFR group and I do have around 10 custom vehicles and the usual LCPDFR mods, braveheart etc.

What I don't get is why my game is using so little of my graphics card. If I want to bump it up to medium, which I should be able to do, what command line do you think I should use for GTA to use more of my graphics card? I'm kind of stuck here because like you said, it is not a top notch card, but it still is very decent.

There isn't a specific flag that will tell GTA to use more of your GPU.  The only available flags are for memory usage.

You could try using the -noprecache setting, and maybe experiment with  -percentvidmem 100.  The best solution would be to get rid of any vehicle and script mods that you absolutely do not need.

Thanks.

Another parameter that a lot of people are suggesting is...

–availablevidmem 0.9
or
–availablevidmem 1.1

Do you think this has a chance of helping my problem?

Also, should I reduce my resolution?

I'm using this commandline at the moment and is the one I usually recommend:

-novblank -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -novsync -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

I also have a lenovo with a NVIDIA card plus an integrated graphics Intel card. Could it be that GTA IV is using my integrated card instead of my NVIDIA? How could I check this?

I just realized that this is the problem I am having. GTA IV is using my Integrated Graphics card instead of my NVIDIA Dedicated Card. I do not know how to change it.
