Things I Wish for - 2014

Featured Replies

Hello! I hope everyone had a fantastic new year! With 2014 arriving, I have some things I wish we as a community could improve on. I also hope that the things I wish for may spread out to other modding communities including the "unused" (:D) GPM. I am not expecting this to gain any popularity or to spread at all, but I am writing this to try and get a good reaction. Here we go.

Things That Are Well/Good Right Now:

  • Helpfulness. The community has helped others many times throughout 2013, bringing in others to help aswell. Those who helped were leaders from behind. “A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.” - Nelson Mandela. This takes to making new leaders, something that the community needs and has.
  • Well-being, for the most part. We as a modding community have done a very well job at tying things together and keeping things calm and civilized. This mostly goes out to the moderators and administrators, but has been done by everyone in the community. Everyone has helped and kept things well one time or another, and may do so without even realizing it. Now, there were some mishaps and arguments along the way, but that is what brings new ideas and new thoughts onto the path of the community.

Things to Improve/That Should Be Fixed:

  • Fighting/Criticism. Now, even though criticism should be used to talk about mods and other things that have been released, we need to do it in a correct fashion. You cannot go around saying things like, "This is stupid, remove it now!" or else no one will want to release or do anything, because they become so nervous that they will be yelled at like that again. What you can say, is, "Hey, this looks nice, but I think you could improve on such and such," which will motivate the person who is showing such and such. Now, after criticism is given, you need to stay calm. You cannot, and should not, attempt to talk back or get into a flame war. That has happened many times in the month of December in the Gallery Section and Downloads section. You should attempt to calmly respond saying something kind, or say, "Hey, thanks for the ideas. I'll be sure to use these in such and such v2,"
  • Flame Wars, which goes along with fighting. Don't get into a flame war, please. It causes stress for everyone involved, even if they have done absolutely nothing to anger such and such the guy.

Now, the community has done a great job throughout 2013, and I hope the same will go for 2014, using some of the thoughts above. I really hope people take this kindly, and post other ideas they (you) have that can be discussed in an orderly fashion. Please DO NOT make a flame war arise from this, and I understand if this topic is deleted/closed if one does arise. Thanks, stay happy and alive!

I agree,

But i have to add something,

More variation in car models :p

Agreed, sadly the decline of good modelers has hindered that change. People like EVI, Cj24, and Kevin, have mostly passed. If only those kind of people would come around and continue releasing well made mods.

God, I hate mod thieves, they ruined a good thing.
