Loading Screen Lag

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to this mod and I just downloaded/installed it today when the website was back up. I read a few threads in the support section about the problem I'm having but I couldn't find anything that relates. Basically what happens is I launch the game (I have the Steam version), press PLAY on Grand Theft Auto IV, then Start and then it takes me to the loading screen with all the concept art. Usually, the person in the foreground is moving forward while the background moves back in a smooth motion but after I installed LCPD:FR, it's been laggy on that. It'll continuously stay on the loading screen without any signs of progress and I never get into the actual game. Can anyone help me?

Can you try turning off unnecessary programs? Also, make sure you are not switching to GFWL (pressing Home button) while it is loading.

I've turned off all unnecessary programs and I'm also not switching to GFWL or Steam in-game or anything of that sort. This has never happened to me before so I find it very weird...

Just for the hell of it, try moving your save games somewhere else. to see if the problem still occurs.

If you use dsound.dll, your savegames will be found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames.

Does it return to normal if you move First Response, and all the script hooks, to a different folder on your desktop so that they aren't part of GTA (basically uninstalling it)?

How much VRAM do you have?

I haven't tried moving First Response yet, mainly because I don't know all the files to remove, unless it uninstalls like a game where you can just go to Add or Remove Programs. I have 1GB VRAM.

1GB VRAM? Ok, that's plenty for GTA so that isn't the problem.

just go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV" and move the Scripts folder, advancedhook, scripthook, dsound.dll, and scripthookdotnet. Removing just the Scripts folder may even be enough.

If you don't have the game on Steam, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\grand Theft Auto IV\

Yeah, I used to be able to play GTA IV on mostly medium and some high settings with my older graphics card that only had 510MB VRAM so I definitely know that the graphics isn't the problem. I will try moving the scripts folder now and I'll get back to you on whether or not it works. Also, thank you for your continued support with my problem!

I removed my scripts folder and the game loads a bit faster but it's still laggy once you get into the game, so the problem is most likely with the main game itself.
