I’m trying to download the installation file on my laptop and it keeps saying virus file detected. Just wondering if I need to use an upgraded laptop or if there’s a bug with the file

It is not a virus. Click “Run Anyway.”

Update 30th Jan 2026: Microsoft Defender has incorrectly introduced a false positive detection for RPH in a recent definition update. If you're affected, you'll see RPH briefly mentioning 'Verifying Hook' and crash or the EXE blocked from running. It may not be sufficient to just exempt your GTA folder; To start RPH, it may be necessary to temporarily disable your AV. You can re-enable your AV when RPH starts and hooks successfully. We have made Microsoft aware of the error and hopefully it will be corrected in a future definition update.

  1. Temporarily disable Windows Security until you install LSPDFR, then create an exception for the Grand Theft Auto folder and RAGEPluginHook.exe in Windows Security or in whatever antivirus you are using.

  2. Install LSPDFR.

If you feel that I’ve been helpful, a simple “thank you” is enough. 🙂
