RagePluginHook keeps crashing

Featured Replies

Spoiler

After I've now reinstalled GTA 5, due to the update, it keeps giving crashing me after a few seconds on the loading screen.

I have an updated version of GTA, all scripthook, ragepluginhook, etc., is all-new, I have everything required when downloading mods, I've restarted, I've done a clean install, everything I can think to fix the problem, I've done it.

Thank you very much for the help!

I can relate.. So I double-click RagePluginHook icon right after starting GTAV (as I always did previously) and the RagePluginHook theme pops up, it says validating hook, then closes and nothing happens after that.. This is an issue that I encountered today for the first time, I don't know if there was a small update again for GTAV which causes the current version of RPH to crash?

I guess it is because of ScripthookV

ScripthookV hasn't been updated yet. You can't even start GTA V through GTAV.exe. But as I can see, you don't even have a "mods" folder. So you can simply delete dinput8.dll and ScripthookV, because you don't use any mods anyway I guess

I had the same behavior. From what I can see it doesn't have anything to do with ScriptHookV as I've removed everything related to it and still having the same issues. This also just started for me this evening and I was running LSPDFR fine minus ScriptHookV the past couple days.

From what I can tell Windows Defender has now started flagging RagePluginHook as malicious (see attached screenshot). It looks like RPH drops a bunch of .wtf files in your local user's temp directory which Defender now flags as malicious. Modding tools by nature do "shady" things because we're purposefully trying to manipulate how software functions, so it's not uncommon for anti-virus/malware software to trip on them...

You can add an exclusion for RPH specifically. Open up the Defender settings by Windows searching for "Virus & threat protection" (click the Windows icon in lower-left of window and start typing "Virus & threat protection", open the best match.

  • Under current threats you should see a bunch of entries from the last time you tried to run RPH/GTA.
  • If you look lower there is a section titled "Virus & threat protection settings", click "Manage settings"
  • Scroll down to "Exclusions", then click "Add or remove exclusions".
  • Confirm you want to allow the ability to change settings.
  • Click "+ Add an exclusion" and select "Process" from the drop-down list
  • Enter the path to where RagePluginHook.exe is located (e.g. "C:/MyGameStorePath/GTAV/RAGEPluginHook.exe")
  • When Windows Defender sees this process run now it will no longer flag its activity as suspicious/malicious. Keep in mind that we are now placing whole blind faith in RPH and that this is otherwise a terrible security practice.
