GTA IV stopped working

Featured Replies

Yesterday GTA IV (Steam version) stopped working. It was fine at one point, running with LCPDFR+ELS (latest versions). Then I took a break and shut my computer down. When I got back I get a CTD as soon as the game starts loading the latest save. To me it sounds like a broken save file or something but even a complete re-install won't fix this. Does the GTA IV Steam version leave hidden traces somewhere on my discs that casuses the problem to re-appear even on fresh installs? If so, how do I find them and where do I look?

Any help appreciated!

My system in case thats relevant here:

Mobo: MSI Z77A-S01 ATX

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @ 4.2 Ghz

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz LP 8GB

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning @ 1300 Mhz

Corsair Force 3 SSD 120 GB (Contains os/system)

Seagate Maximus Hybrid 500/4 GB (contains Steam folders)

Windows 7 Home Premium

3dMark11: P10237

My rig is 100% dedicated to gaming so theres no other weird software running in the background other than the ones needed to play. All drivers and software updated to latest stable version! All other games such as Arma II and even GTA EFLC works perfectly.

Solved! There was some GTA IV related files on my C drive that I missed earlier (game being installed on D:). Now GTA IV and LCPDFR works like a charm again!

Question: is it common to get corrupted saves with LCPDFR+ELS mods installed?

I've been getting a lot of PM's lately asking what I did so here it goes:

No matter what drive you installed GTA IV there will be files on C: as well. Look for folder C:/user/name/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/

I think theres a conflict between LCPDFR and GTA IV that makes the savefile crash. Those files are located in a subfolder to 'Rockstar Games' above. Try deleting saves ONLY first to see if that gets the game going. If not - uninstall the game using Steam (or other uninstaller if non Steam version) and then delete the entire 'Rockstar Games' folder. When you re-install the game it should work properly!

Note: I don't know if the content of the 'Rockstar Games' folder is hidden by default or not. If you can't find it make sure you set Windows to show hidden files/folders.

I tried that. Deleted my rockstar folder in the local file, and it still is returning to my old save point. I have also re-installed the game. It was playing just fine, like you said, until i shut down last night.

The Simple problem of Corrupted Saved files are due to this SMPA60 error, I believe. LCPDFR does not have any conflict with saved games. Mine works like a charm. The error is caused due to car mods being saved in the parking space. I have tried every saved file i have and there is no conflict. I strongly suggest that if you want to play LCPDFR using a saved file, make sure there is no modded cars parked in the parking space.

Hello, as ASTTrprDillon95 write you have, to have a savegame with no cars in the save parking slots. So if you mod a car and its parked a space i will crash.

I found a 100% savegame with no cars in the parking spaces, and it works like a charm.

Just put in Documents/Rockstar Games/ Gta IV / Save games.
