Classic Metropolitan Police BMW 5 E39 Area Car including a civilian ARV version too!

An IDEAL compliment to mix and match with the & the .

Special thanks to TheImCraig for converting the model!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdv7b8Xod1U

As seen on The Bill!

This BMW 5 pack comes with four models:

  • BMW 5 E39 2002 (Metropolitan Police, ARV with Maxim Lightbar)
  • BMW 5 E39 2003 (Metropolitan Police, Area Car with Vision-Alert Lightbar)
  • BMW 5 E39 2004 (Civilian)

Extra liveries for the ARV version include DPG and a classic white livery of a 1999-2001 Metropolitan Police ARV.

I didn't make an unmarked version of the BMW E39 this time as I've never seen one used by the Met.

* The models are closely based on the REAL BMW E39s that were used in the Met, and the ELS-setup is the closest you will ever get for GTA IV.

FEATURES

~ TEMPLATES included to make your own liveries

~ Realistic registration plates, based off real vehicles

~ Multiple liveries, based on different units

~ Different model versions, based on specialist units in the Metropolitan Police

~ Highly accurate equipment (MDT boxes, aerials, lightbars etc.)

~ ELS-Enabled model, using REAL lighting setups by Double Doppler

~ Badges removed on police versions

~ Included HANDLING & DASH CAM lines - closely matched to the real specifications!

~ High quality skins - these are the most accurate and HQ you will find for GTA IV!

~ Civilian version included!

~ 100% High-quality guarantee from Double Doppler as usual!

REQUIREMENTS

* Please make sure you have the following software installed first before you install this modification *

- A legal and working copy of GTA IV patch 1.0.7.0 + LCPDFR installed (with the programs required to run LCPDFR installed on GTA IV too).

I'm not a fan of British police cars, but Double Doppler's work is always a 10/10. No doubt about that.

Quite an interesting discussion going on here with many people saying the model is perfect, it made me want to check the vehicles out, too, and to be honest, I rate it maximum 3/5 stars. There're quite a few obvious inaccuracies, just to name some of them:

  • Wrong use of material shaders: All your added parts seem to have mesh (chrome) shaders. I've taken a look at pictures of the real lightbars, they're just plastic. I'd advise you to use generic shaders instead and maybe darker specmaps for the glass.
  • The headlights look just awful. Their textures are almost not visible, it looks like they are just grey with some odd orange parts. You should make the whole background a lot darker, it's almost black IRL. The lights itself should be mapped to a proper texture and the orange corona should have a white texture as well. The small lights next to the indicators are indicators, too, therefore they should get an orange texture as well of course.
  • There're different types of taillights, but the upper light parts with the indicators are either completely white or orange. You only colored the indicator itself.
  • The grill has bugged polygons.
  • Remove the midmaps for your liveries. This will make them look much more high quality.

I didn't check the whole model indepth, that's all I noticed when I looked at it ingame.

I also understand why some people might not like you as a person very much. The whole way of presenting your work is very confident, for some maybe even arrogant. While you don't even mention the author of the car model, the converter gets one single line, while you have ten, mostly small details that can be named in two or three lines. Your features list partly just says your work is perfect, and that is provoking against others, other features are just normal (like no dirt bugs). You have large lists with recommend mods, only yours, though, and adding such a license is overblown as well, IMO.

I'm not trying to offend you in any way, I only want to tell you what's my impression of you, and I believe other's share it.

By the way, I'd advise you to remove the Copyright, since you're using real life trademarks and the actual legal holders are BMW, the Metropolitan Police and the manufactors of the equipment.

There's nothing wrong with the car. Have you ever seen this car in real life? Are you even from London? Double Doppler has been making mods for a long time. Not trying to be rude, but if someone is going to criticizes hes models, it should be someone who is from England and knows and seen this car in real life. Great work anyway Double Doppler. I love your work.

He does have a point but the original lights are a bit out of place because they're meant to fit into the game, that's why they're orange. If they were white, they would flash white while indicating, and that would be no good. TheImCraig made them like that because he wanted them to fit in with the original vehicles in the game, and not look out of place.

Not true, you can simply color lights with the ZModeler Color Tool, they'll use that color only when emissive. And I'm not really sure which lights you're talking about, the coronas are supposed to be white, it's the same with more recent BMWs, it's a daytime running light. The outer small lights belong to the indicator, yours are white, though.

I'm not offended by your criticism at all, of course the tone of your posts may appear a little harsh with a hint of sarchasm "awful quality nowadays", as though its intention is to offend, although I'm not playing into it. I appreciate the tips you've given, but the convert was not by myself so I wasn't in charge of it. If I do convert models in the future, I will look out for details like these. I've already tried to do so with the lightbars and adding many details on the vehicle such as the rear-reds flashing as they do in real life, the caravan mirrors and rear-window trims - something that wasn't a feature to British police vehicles until recently.

Materials can be a real hassle to set up so it happens that you get them wrong from time to time, I had to redo every material on my 2011 Charger as they were completely messed up with weird reflections.
