go into polygon mode select all polygons you want to separate make sure select mode is on, then go to Modify > Submesh > Detach then click.

If this is for your Pierce model don't do any of this yet. except mirroring.

It's most likely that you are using an ELS V6 car, though I'm not sure at this moment if it's the models fault.

I did read the guide but it was pretty confusing for me, I was just wondering do we name the extras anything different to get them to work?
