I can only speak for my state, being Florida, but I'm sure other states are similar.  Here you need citizenship before you can become a police officer, as you will be taking an oath to support and defend our Constitution and there should be no foreign conflicts of interest in terms of allegiance.

For reference: you came here and asked me (the cop) a question.  I gave you an honest answer.  Here is a good way to not last a single day in law enforcement: ask a question, dislike the truthful answer, then tell everyone else why you are right instead.  I used cannabis for the last time over ten years before I dropped my first police application.  In your comment you stated " Can't wait until its legal nationwide and everyone can enjoy regardless of profession. But until then, whiskey will be my companion".  I can tell you right now that it does not matter where you live or if it is legal.  It is still against FEDERAL law, no matter where you live.  When you get sworn in as a police officer you are swearing to uphold state AND federal laws.  In addition, states with cannabis legalization have exemptions put in place specifically to not extend that privilege toward law enforcement for the reason I stated above.  If you want to be a cop then you should know you are seeking to enter probably the most conservative leaning profession in the United States.  The research is coming out of states where it has been legalized and there have been massive negative consequences because of it.  Since you are clearly an expert on the subject matter please advise me exactly what I stated that was non-factual.
