It's a very difficult thing to say really.
Australian's always say "Why can't America just ban guns like us" without even thinking about the question.
1st off, you try taking the guns off the millions of people that have them, and see what happens then (hint, mass riots and general chaos)
2nd, it isn't as simple as just banning them. American and Australian culture is very different, and guns were never really a big part of Australian culture.
Guns are still available in Australia. Farmers can get rifles and shotguns, collectors can get many different types as long as they're not used and club members can get a handgun licence. Concealed/open carry is not a thing and no civilian can get a gun without a reason and it needs to be proved. (EG: club members need to attend a set amount of competitions each year). The only people that carry guns in public are police officers/security ect.
Another point is that while statistically America has really bad gun violence, there are still heaps of good guys with guns. So while it isn't as safe as some other countries, there are ups and downs. (Not saying that this is the answer, its still really bad and you have to accept that.)
Personally, I think that gun violence is a very big issue that needs to be addressed in America. Saying otherwise is just pure ignorance. But its just very hard to do so.
