Hey,
I faced the problem that in ELS 5 I could use the leftstick button of my Saitek game controller to toggle sirens just as it is possible with the key "G".
Now in ELS7 they changed the keys to "H", "Y" and "T" for various different siren modes. Although this is a great idea and makes ELS 7 even more realistic, I couldn't use the leftstick button of my controller anymore: it now only toggles the normal horn but no siren.
The solution for my problem was that I programmed my controller in just 2 minutes using its programming software. Normally every controller should come with a programming software.
Follow these simple steps and see if it works for you:
1. Find and open the programming software for your respective controller.
2. Create a new game profile, name it "GTA" (or whatever you want).
3. Now select your leftstick button and you should be able to configure its options.
-> In my case I can right-click on options and select "set key for this button".
-> So basically you should be able to combine any of your controller buttons with a keyboard key. Thus, if you set your leftstick button to "H" it should work just like the key "H" in-game.
-> Note that if you changed the default keys of ELS 7 to customized keys in the ELS.ini, you have to use these new keys as reference in the programming software.
4. Don't forget to save your new game profile in the programming software of your controller and to activate the profile before launching GTA 4!
What is more, following the steps above for all three default keys for sirens in ELS7 I was able to set them to three controller buttons.
In addition, I changed the key for the siren ("H") to "G" in the ELS.ini as it was in ELS 5/6. Thus, the headlights won't toggle when you activate your siren.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
My programming software looks like this when I bind the three ELS siren keys to the controller button of my choice:
