Try xlive.dll instead of dsound.dll or try booth.

Do not try both, you are only meant to have one at a time... They both do the same thing!

    Anyway, Alex.

Make sure you have both of these installed:

Are you running the game as an administrator?

How long after you begin to play does it crash?

Xlive.dll - When you install LCPDFR, you will be presented with a list of items with checkboxes next to them. one will say dsound.dll and another Xlive.dll. Select one or the other, do not select both.

Also using xlive.dll will remove your multiplayer so you will be unable to play online...

When you install over the top of an old install it will only overwrite old files not delete and then recopy. This means that if you select xlive.dll, the old dsound.dll will not be deleted automatically.

delete dsound.dll first and then reinstall but select xlive.dll instead.
