malomowny reacted to Cucamonga in What files we need to back up before update?Usually RAGE will ask if you want to back up when you get a new RAGE version otherwise you can go into RAGE Plugin Hook settings and backup the game data it backs up roughly a gig and it doesn't take too long. Otherwise updates always add new update.rpf folders so you should backup your current update.rpf in Mods because you will need to copy the new update.rpf from the new update to your mods folder to run the new update properly, then you will have to copy your mods back into the Mods folder update rpf that was updated.

Also go into OpenIV and click "edit mode". See if it says anything about updating.
