Winter

After three days of heavy snowfall, it's clear to Blaine County residents:

Winter is here.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office has responded to over fourty motor vehicle collisions, five of which had fatalities on scene.

"We want to urge drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roadways. It's dangerous." said Spokesperson John Raker in a press release.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office had these tips to share:

  1. If you do not have to drive, stay home.
  2. Ensure that your vehicle is properly outfitted with winter tires.
  3. It's slippery when it's wet! Slow down there!
  4. Maximize the distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. Recommended in winter conditions is four - six car lengths.

"We are starting to enforce the winter driving laws at this point, which means we will be doing spot checks on vehicles and handing out fines for violations, such as driving without winter tires."

"It's imperative that drivers use their judgement when driving. If it seems as if it's getting too slippery or you start feeling uneasy while driving at fast speeds, either pull over and wait for conditions to get better, or slow down!"
