switch box help

ok i was trying to play 2 play by 2 computers hook together both windows 7. i went out and bought a cross over caple to link the computers together. i started gta iv on both computers and went in a lan match every thing looked good played for littel while and play 2 got kick off said computer too slow. he log on to match again and work goog for littel while and done the same thing. i went out and bought a switch to hook them to gether same thing happen can some one tell me how to fix the problem note i am not playing online the 2 computers are in the same room in the house. i don't play online case i live in a area with no cable so i'm on verizon and only get 10 gb a mouth. the guy at the computer store said i need the switch so my computer wasn't trying to do every thing he said a switch would work
