Help with installing a vehicle texture...

Featured Replies

Here's the issue:

Anytime I try to install a vehicle texture, the texture is ALWAYS messed up. Usually in the form of the texture taking the spot of the vehicle number on the roof.

What am I doing wrong? I have followed tutorials exactly it seems.

Hi there,

Please go through the steps.  What do you do to install the texture?

Your topic has been moved to GTA V Support, this is not LSPDFR related.
Please post in the correct location in the future.

This is the tutorial I followed exactly(to my knowledge.)

There are a couple of concerns that might of made things go wrong: I am pretty sure that his police cruiser is not the default one. When I was changing the textures in the .ytd. files, I replaced policenew_sign_1 w/ the skin provided, then delete the rest of the policenew_signs that were there previously. Then, I go to Police.yft and find that it didn't work; either the skin is on the vehicle but like a kid threw cans of paint all over the car, or the whole vehicle texture is on the roof of the car.

Note: I also prefer the sheriff vehicle goes into the Sheriff spot.

If this doesn't indicate any truth and you don't know what I am doing wrong, I will gladly go through my process more thoroughly.

I really wanted this one in the Sheriff spot, but it says it is meant for "BCSD Animated Cvpi ELS Enabled." Does that mean the texture itself wouldn't work on a default vehicle skin? If so, here is another one.

Here was my process w/ this one:

1. Download.

2. Open files in Win.rar

3. Open up OpenIV for windows.

4. GTA V > update > x64 > dlcpacks > patchday3ng > dlc.rpf > x64 > levels > gta5 > vehiclres.rpf

5. Turn on edit mode in Open IV.

6. Open sheriff.ytd

7. In Winrar: Open "Wisconsin State Police" file.

8. In the readme: "To install CVPI skin: x64e.rpf > levels > GTA V > vehicles.rpf" (maybe I just need to place it in the vehicles.rpf and not go into the sheriff.ytd file?)

9. I open up sheriff.ytd.

10. I rename the win.rar skin "sheriff1" then drag and drop it into the sheriff.ytd file. I then delete the original sheriff1 posistion(which has the decals on the side of the vehicle) then save.

Am I doing more than I need to? Am I doing less? Are one of my concerns correct on placing the files in the wrong place?

Don't use patchday3 for your vehicles, use patchday17, or whatever the newest is.

So move the Patchday17 into the mods folder and put the police vehicles or any vehicle I wish to re-skin in there then do the same process I've been doing?

Yes.  However, to add patchday17 to the mods folder, into the vanilla update and navigate to patchday17's vehicles.rpf.  Click "edit mode" at the top, and you'll see a red box notifying you that you're not in the mods folder.  You'll be given the option to make that path in the mods folder.  Do it.

@Giordano Before I saw your post, I had transferred it by right clicking Patchday17 and extracting it from the vanilla folder to the modded folder.

I am currently doing the same for the police and sheriff vehicles located in patchday3 in the mods folder (transferring them to patchday17 also in the mods folder)

Yeah, I suck at this. I think I did it wrong and if I continue to try I'll destroy my game on accident again.
