I was wondering what these files do in game and how to use them when editing for various car mods and such? what i would like to know is what to look for when editing such files or what methods to use things like that. You know really important stuff which i need to be aware of.

Carvariations controls how your car spawns.  Prior to ELS being released, it also allowed your vehicle to have a siren.  While you no longer have to have carvariations for a siren, it still controls how the vehicle spawns, specifically what color it spawns. 

 

To clarify, in your title, by vehicles do you mean the vehicles.meta?

The vehicles.meta contains all the details about the car itself.  How the car sounds, the handling, if it's a law enforcement vehicle, where the first person camera height is, LODs, etc.

 

I can't really answer the one about carcols, as I myself am unsure exactly what they do.  I know the carcols can be used to create new/custom siren settings for vehicles, such as Jedahdiah's rotator packs.

OK. so how do you figure out what settings to use when doing a custom mod for siren and lights in carvariations? I am not familiar with editing such a file to customize various settings.

I think it'd be a little more helpful if you explained what you were trying to do.

I am trying to add various car mods to my game however I did state in another topic that I am having some issues with getting the one mod to install right. when i use the lights on the firetruck the textures distort and i have even tried to use different textures for the same firetruck still the same result. my problem is someone said the siren settings need to be adjusted. but to what setting and about the light what setting do i put them at as well. I was trying to put the nonels version of pimdslrs firetruck into the game and i even did as the readme said to but the lights still distort when used on the vehicle in game as if there is something not right about the model itself or something.  i have the info from the carvariations file he provided but i am not sure what to do with it. there already is one in the place he said to replace it with . I was wondering if i should copy and paste the info into the current one or extract it then make changes and drag it back into the game using open iv. also the siren settings are at 7 in his file but so are the lights as well.

If a vehicle author provides you with a vehicles.meta or carvariations, it usually means their vehicle uses specific settings.  You can either install the one he provided, or you can open the one he provided, and open your carvariations and change the firetruk entry to match his.

OK. I was wondering though if i should take the carvariations extract it from the game and then copy and paste the info inside the file he provided then change it? I mean i could do either or but I know that someone said changing the settings inside the file.

It ultimately comes down to what you want to do and what is easier for you.  I just change the settings in my carvariations to match theirs, and never replace.

this is the carvariations meta file settings he has for his firetruck. however the carvariations ymt file has something completely different for the light and siren settings.

What I am wondering is what settings to use for the firetruck since I am thinking about adding the lines in to the current carvariations  meta as it doesnt have the vehicles listed and then adjusting the settings once I have it inside the carvariations file on the desktop.
