Game has persistent crashing after update!

So long story short last patch (smuggler's run or w.e) introduced a patchday16 after that update my game pretty much quit on me and crashed a minute in to loading RPH. What I have found out so far is: mods folder when empty lets the game run and not crash plugins and everything is fine, after copying UPDATE, x64 and x64e.rpf into mods the game starts crashing again which made me think maybe the game atm can't handle these many extra files or cars, so got a new gameconfig game loads okay then I proceeded to start modding the files inside mods namely carvariations, vehicles.meta and the car models themselves then game begins crashing once again so I'm thinking I need help with adding DLC packs or something because I'm starting to believe maybe these files are too big? carvariations is 1.7MB maybe I'm just overloading a single vehicles.rpf with too many models?

 

PS: patchday16 vehicles.rpf seems to be quite big on its own without me adding anything so i placed everything back in patchday15 and size is 301MB idk if good or not

  • It turns out that this particular model did have a special meta entry line so I just went to the model folder itself and copy pasted it where it belongs. Everything is up and running thank you so much

I honestly couldn't tell you if MB is more than KB or which, but yes, there definitely is a limit as to how big carvariations, vehicles.meta, and vehicles.rpf can be.  I learned this the hard way.  My mpchristmas2 carvariations is at 167.5KB, while the mpchristmas2 vehicles.meta is 338.1 KB, and vehickes.rpf is 2000MB.  I would take a few veehicles out of the dlc or patchday you're using and start utilizing the dlcpacks for add-on cars.  Start with mpchristmas2, but note, you will need to edit the carvariations and vehicles.meta within mpchristmas2, as it has its own.

Say I choose mpchristmas2 and another dlc folder and say what I put inside is 2 addon cars in each one, I gotta modify the carvars of both folders to match my addon1 and addon3 for example? Also is there any way to make my vehicles.meta smaller?

Yes, you need to modify each carvariations and vehicles.meta if you use different DLCs.  If you just use one DLC, you only need to edit the meta and carvar for that one.  The only way to shrink carvariations and meta is to delete content inside of it, in which case, everything inside the meta except the add-on vehicle content is mandatory.

Right! Okay will do that because my vehicles.meta in comparison to the base one and other files of the like is really big went from like 400KB to 1676KB so yeah that might be an issue.

When one of the files, usually the vehicles.meta or the vehicles.rpf, gets to about 1k, I stop and move onto the next one.  I have several DLCs full of standalone cars, lol.

Got a question so in total i got 4 addon cars so all 4 can fit in mpchristmas2 DLC for sure now once i'm done with their carvars and vehicles.meta file entries where do I go to change the entries of the models I'm using as replacement of the default ones? I guess my actual question would be if I decide to put my default slot replacement models inside a DLC pack such as mpchristmas do I need to edit the meta of the default slot vehicles in this DLC pack or can I leave it as it is? I know for addon cars for sure because they won't exist otherwise but for the replacements can I just leave the files in there and call it a night?

If you're trying to replace files like the POLICE, POLICE 2, etc slot, I don't believe those will work in the DLCs.  I think they have to be in the latest patchday.  The vehicles.meta for the patchdays is mods / update / update/ common / data / levels / gta5  The carvariations are hard coded in, you'll need to add your own carvariations line in the carvariations for a dlcpack such as mpchristmast2.

So after a long time testing and testing I narrowed it down to this so far: 

 

-Latest patch of the game with latest RPH and latest SHV will run with all replacement models in the latest patchday however if I try to modify the default vehicles.meta in update / update.rpf/ common / data / levels / gta5 meaning a change in size of this file as of right now will trigger crashing again so models will load and game wont crash if the meta is the default.

-Same scenario with my modified carvariations and vehicles.meta for the addons in "mpchristmas2" with no addon-car models in its rpf yet will still trigger crashing.

 

So at this point man I honestly have no idea what happened in the latest update of the game that the minimal change in carvars or meta files will singlehandedly cause crashing after RPH starts loading I'm at the RPH discord and the amount of people with the same issue is nuts!

Kallus so I edited my gameconfig.xml to the point where I have all of my cars in place now where addons are in a dlc folder and all the replacements in the latest patchday game isnt crashing at launch anymore however when I do try to spawn any of the addon cars then the crash happens.

Lets clarify something, please.  You edited the gameconfig.....what did you edit, exactly?   You're not supposed to edit the gameconfig at all.

I researched abit and came across a page where it said that if certains scenarios were happening edit some lines with less values and stuff so i tried that but crashing came back after a bit so i just opted to get a gameconfig.xml from someone that was running the latest version of the game and so far its been working for me as long as I dont use the addon cars everything works okay.

Do me a favor, please.  In OpenIV go to mods / update / update / common / data.    Replace the gamconfig with this one - https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/gameconfig-for-addons-600

 

Normally all you need to do is just replace the gameconfig, nothing else.

Alright will do and you said spawning addons meant a problem with the carvar or meta of that specific DLC where the models are located so basically I have the default files of mpvalentines2 as i moved everything there, added entry lines for the 4 addon cars in meta and carvars and the models in mpvalentines.rpf, my replacements for default slots only have their window tint value changed in the meta of the path you instructed before so I don't know what exactly in the carvar or meta of the DLC is making the vehicles crash the game.

You didn't add vehicles.meta lines for default vehicles (police, police2) into the dlcs, did you?  If yes, that's unnecessary.  There's already a designated spot for replacement meta.

I did just switched all models to mpchristmas2 and copy pasted the addon entries for carvars and meta in that DLC's files so no i dont have the default slots entries in either one but the game still crashing upon addon vehicle spawn.

Once again the error got the best of me and didn't think of the possibilities here thanks you're so patient LOL. NOPE you are absolutely right crash is happening only with POLICE6 the other ones are spawning just FINE...

It's all good. :P  Try taking the vehicles.meta from a working add-on vehicle and place it in the POLICE6 slot.  Then just rename the appropriate fields to POLICE6.
