Non-ELS emergency lights

Featured Replies

Hi,

I found vanilla visual settings too odd so I installed VisualV. However, emergency lights, especially those w/o coronas, are too dim. So I've tried increasing emissives and posfx, shaders/ows settings, but when eme lights are on, ambient lights just darken, especially when driving SAHP Buffalo (see pics). So I put emissives back to default, as it is in VisualV and left rest on 'high', but eme lights are still too odd.

Has anyone know, which visual mod/visuals settings is perfect to use w/ recent RDE and does not cause ambient lights to darken?

I haven't used RDE, so my method might not make any difference.  In OpenIV, go to mods / update / update / common / data.  Extract "visaulsettings.dat" to your desktop.  Next, please attach that to your next post.

OK.

'visualsettings.dat' is the original VisualV file.

'visualsettings2.dat' is modified VisualV file, in which I changed day & night emissives for vehicles.

Is visualsettings2.dat also in your data folder? If so, that's why it's not working.  Visualsettings2 is not a valid file.  You'll need to delete visualsettings.dat and rename visualsettings2.dat to visualsettings.dat.

I used #2 just for differentiation, because, 1st, you cannot keep two files with the same name in the same folder, 2nd, you wouldn't be able to (quickly) tell, which file is vanilla VisualV and which is modified ... I'm not stupid, I know that I need to replace visualsettings.dat in update.rfp/common/data ...

No one thinks you are stupid. :) Some people would think having two visualsettings, one named visualsettings2, would work fine.   So you rename visualsettings2 to just visualsettings and remove the other visualsettings.  This doesn't solve the lights issue?

Yep, i replaced visualsettings in update.rpf with edited visualsettings from VisualV. That made light brighter, a real delight for an eye, but as I've wrote, ambient lights darkened ...

and does this happen when you use the other visualsettings?

I've tried radiancev, and it does this as well.

I'm not entirely sure about this, as honestly I haven't paid much attention to ambient lights.  One thing you can try is take the visualsettings.dat from the vanilla update folder, edit the appropriate lines, and then put it in your mods folder to see if it still happens.

That should work, but visuals would be vanilla as well ... And I didn't like it, that's why I downloaded VisualV. Also I haven't found anyone using VisualV and Radiance complaining about this issue ...
