I have some questions

Featured Replies

Hello I am new to the modding on GTA V I copied and pasted the original GTA Root directory I downloaded GTA through steam and the other folder I use is the modded gta one. Here's my questions as follows

1. How do I have a primary Police vehicle for myself that won't spawn that other A.I cops won't spawn in that only I on there can use.

2. When I download other police vehicles how come on the instructions the police cars won't all go in the same folder can it all go into the mod folder on Script IV? It just seems that one developer will have one car go under Patchday3 and another developer will have a different one go under Patchday14

3. If I want to install police vehicles and it's police or police2 etc and the vehicle I download has a completly different name then how do I install it with that file name.

4. I want to replace the riot truck what file extension do I do that with?

5. How do you back up these gta files? Because I see people saying that before installing certain mods to do a backup.

Thanks for the help as I am new to this.

1) You'd either have to add in a standalone police car, or replace a vehicle slot that isn't used.  However, that will require vehicles.meta and carvariations editing.

2) In the past, different patchdays worked for installing vehicles.  This was changed.  Now, only the very latest patchday with a vehicles.rpf works for replacing vehicles.

3) Just to verify I'm understanding you, if you install a vehicle that is named POLICE2, how can you use it in a different slot such as POLICE?  If that's the question, you can just change the name of the .ytd, the .yft, and the _hi.yft to the name of the slot you want to replace.

4) I'm confused, what do you mean?  You'd replace the RIOT truck the exact same as the others.  Use the latest patchday, and rename the files to riot.

5) They mean back-up the files you're replacing. For example, if you replace the visualsettings.dat, you would extract your current visualsettings.dat somewhere on your desktop. That way you can throw it back in if needed.  Same thing with vehicles.  As long as you're using a mods folder, you can go into the vanilla files in OpenIV and extract those to use as back-ups.

This actually helped me a lot understand replacement vehicles and add-ons.

Thanks a lot you answered my questions exactly however for question number 1 how do you install it as a stand alone? I was thinking it had to go in a police slot.

Yes, as I said, what the uploader says will no longer work.  Just the very latest patchday, but it has to have a vehicles.rpf.

You're welcome. :) Though I prefer if you post a thread with any issues.  I'm far from a professional, so if there's something I don't know, at least someone else has the ability to take over helping. :)
