Ok, if you load into the single player via steam does it still crash? On a side note i laughed kinda hard at work when you were going over the steam notification, thinking in my head i can see you yelling "gtfo steam!"

SP off of steam loads fine. After GTA V froze my entire PC of course lmao

Ok so we can prbably rule out that its GTA side, have you tried uninstalling OpenIV and trying to run rage? And it was right before it loaded lol.

Ok so, this is interesting. I uninstalled OpenIV, and it still crashed. BUT out of nowhere i got the idea to unplug my controller.

oh my god it was my controller this entire time

also whenever I go on duty and spawn in my patrol car everything freezes but i can still see notifications/pause menu etc

WOW!! Ok so i might know the fix for freezing i need to try it when i get home but try and hold shift when you open rage and go into the settings and force direct x 10 or 11, its "freezing" because of police smart radio.

So i tested this for myself when i got home and BAM it worked for me, hopefully it does for you.

Hey brother your not alone I have NEVER had a problem with LSPDFR until ragehook .55, then the game kept crashing. I tried everything, I uninstalled everything and did a clean install, it still kept crashing. I saw this thread and then I read this "it was my controller this entire time", I looked over and went shit my Xbox controller is plugged in. I unplugged it and what do you know, it works. I'm happy but mad because now I have a ton of things to install lol

Thankfully the wireless 360 controller is not affected(yet) but i would have never in a million years thought of that..

Yeah, what pisses me off more is the fact I don't use a controller for LSPDFR, I use it for another game. I plan on going to wireless anyway one less headache. I also force DX11 to avoid any problems or freezes from smart radio.

Yea I thought about it because for some reason on games like NASCAR '15 for example, when you try to save the game would crash because your controller was plugged in. Then I thought to myself "what if its my controller?" 

And thats how NASCAR saved me from reinstalling GTA V

Wait I have been having the same problem sometimes it would load and sometimes crash.  So we are saying that this is the controller doing this so does that mean I can't use my controller anymore to play LSPDFR.   I mean I thought it was the gamelog in my mod folder but that was up to date so idk if it is the controller

Try launching the game without your controller plugged in, then while in game plug your controller in. See if that works.

I thought it was just me.  My controller works perfectly with GTA no issues except for out of the blue hard crashes mid game.  When I say out of the blue, I mean it.  I've had sessions where I can play for an hour and it never crashes.  The next session, it'll crash 10 minutes in. If I try to relaunch Rage, it'll crash while loading the game.  Unplug controller, works fine.  I have no idea why the controller would be causing issues, and every time I've created a support topic to see if anyone has an idea, no one answers, leading me to believe no one knows.  I've given up trying to figure it out.

 

@Andyv81  As long as your controller works in game without any issues, you can continue using it.  Just do as Jld said.
