Vehicles.meta help

Featured Replies

I am a complete noob at modding this game and just made a big mistake.  I installed a vehicle that seemed to be crashing my game.  I deleted the vehicles.meta file completely.  I tried verifying the game files, but that hasn't helped.  Is there any way to get that file back?

If you used a mods folder, yes, you can get the vehicles meta back.  Go into the vanilla files, copy that meta to your desktop, then drag it back into the mods folder.

If you didn't use a mods folder, unfortunately, no there is not a way to retrieve it.

In the future, if a meta line you added is crashing the game, you can remove only that line you added and it will be fine.

Thanks.  I wasn't using a mods folder; still trying to understand OpenIV, but I somehow found a vehicles.meta that fixed it from another plugin.

Glad you got it resolved.  As per the mods folder, I strongly advise you use one - http://openiv.com/?p=1132

The mods folder will protect your core files while still allowing you to change the game to how you need.

I tried following the instructions with OpenIV.  I guess I don't understand which files need to go in the mods folder.  Is it only certain .rpf files, some .exe's or what?  The first couple of times I tried using a mods folder, the game just wouldn't load.

What you'll be editing is what goes in the mods folder.  Here's some examples:

Right click on the .rpf, and you will see "copy to mods folder".  It says "show in mods folder" because I've copied it already.

You don't have to do this with any files you don't want.  Like me, I've only copied over to the mods folder what I plan to edit.  If you plan to edit only vehicle meta, go into the vanilla files of where that meta is.  Find its .rpf, and refer back to ths first screenshot.
