Lightbar goes into car at a certain distance

Featured Replies

When I get a certain distance from the truck, the lightbar seems to go into the truck.

Here's what it looks like up close:

And here it is when it's in the car:

Here's the hierarchy in Zmodeler:

Thank you :)

This sounds and looks like a LOD (Level of Detail) issue. GTA renders different objects on each car at different distances, the goal being to use less detailed parts as you get farther away from the car.

I'm assuming your light bar model itself is "misc_c" in your hierarchy, so you'll need to check that and make sure you have your LOD parts set up and placed correctly. You should have at least an "_L0" and "_L1". For example, "misc_c_L0" and "misc_c_L1". You'll need to move each object separately, so basically what's happening is this:

You imported the light bar, and then you moved it to the top of the truck. When you did that, you only had the _L0 of the light bar selected, so the _L1 of the light bar is still in the dead center of the car, where it defaults to when you imported it.

It's hard to explain in text but, hopefully you understand what I'm talking about. A quick way to check for these issues is to use OpenIV. Open the car in the model viewer, and on the side of the screen theres an option for Level of Detail. You can select High (_L0), Medium (_L1), and Low (_L2) in OpenIV and view the car with all the related parts.
