ELS.asi is crashing my game

Featured Replies

So basically what the title said.

I've came to the conclusion that none of my mods are conflicting with ELS, as I rename mods to mods and run the game with ELS.asi. I've deleted all of my old VCF's from my pack_default and removed all modded vehicles from my game. The only "mod" that I have is NVE, but I've ran ELS by itself without NVE and it still crashes. My RagePluginHook is also crashing when attempting to hook, but I'm just trying to figure out the last .asi that's crashing my game after the update, and will move onto figuring out why RPH is crashing once I figure this part out; just going one step at a time. I've experimented with it over the last several hours. I'm not entirely sure what the reasoning is, as I've tried to even run the game with only ELS.asi and no other ASI's. I would also attach a log, but the game crashes with no error. It gets towards the end of loading into storymode, and instantly crashes with no message. If anyone has insight to this or has had this issue before after an update, it'd be great appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You sure it’s not rage that’s not the problem. Rage was updated and a few other mods are crashing. If you can try revert your gta v to old version and see it that fixes the problem. I’m still on the old version gta v and all mods so far are working for me

I'm almost positive rage isn't the issue, because I run vanilla GTA first to make sure all of my ASI's are working, and ELS is the only one causing the crash. My Rage is indeed crashing, but I'll try to work on fixing that after I figure out what's wrong with ELS lol. Sadly, I don't have a backup of the previous version. I appreciate the suggestion!

I have my backup files on Dropbox for gta v if you want a link to the old files

I've managed to fix the issue after quite a bit of testing.

For any of you who may come across this in the future what I did was:

TLDR; A September 2025 Windows Update caused Program Files to become a protected environment which restricts read/write access of any third party program (RagePluginHook). If you are having to approve any files that move into your GTA folder, this could be the fix for you. Simply fix this specific issue by moving your game installation to another folder, preferably directly into C: Drive (C:\Grand Theft Auto V Legacy) and see if this could fix your issue.

ELS + AdvancedHookV was failing during early initialization because it could not reliably write files / initialize hooks under Program Files’ protected environment. Turning off your antivirus will NOT fix this, because your PC still has a layer of security when it comes to your permissions. If you find yourself constantly having to approve file transfers to and from GTA 5's root with Admin Permissions, try moving your installation to your C:Drive or wherever else. Program Files may have a hard time allowing reading/writing permissions, and I noticed that AdvancedHookV was having a really hard time working because of where the installation location is. ELS.asi wasn't broken, my PC permissions are just all messed up. Definitely move your game installation somewhere else on your PC and give it a try. Rockstar Launcher naturally installs the game in C:/Program Files/Rockstar Games/"GAME", but that can be very iffy.

Doing this will ALSO fix any sudden crashes with RPH when it tries to hook. It's basically the same concept. Program Files will not allow RPH permissions to read/write since program files is a protected environment. All of my crashes stopped as soon as I moved my game folder.

Including that this will also fix RPH crashing as soon as it tries to hook / Had members contact me saying this worked, but added a TLDR; (Too lazy didn't read) to make it easier to understand in simpler terms.
