Subject: LSPD OFFICE WOUNDED IN AMBUSH ATTACK

On the evening of November 8, 3 year veteran Patrol Officer Derrick Jordan was making a routine property check at the Crown Jewels Motel, located at 312 Bay City Avenue as the property is known to be frequented by prostitutes and narcotics dealers.  At approximately 10:58pm as Officer Jordan stepped out of his patrol car, he was shot and seriously wounded by an unknown assailant.  Although he had been struck several times, he was able to trigger the emergency beacon on his handheld radio.  At 11:00pm, dispatch advised all units of a possible officer down at the location.

At approximately 11:02pm, Sergeant Phil McCracken arrived on scene and was immediately fired upon while still his in vehicle by the shooter, being struck once in the shoulder.  Sgt McCracken was able to exit his vehicle, find cover and call for backup.  While awaiting backup, Sgt. McCracken located the shooter on the southeast rooftop of the property and returned fire, striking the shooter.  Sgt. McCracken immediately began rendering aid to PO Jordan until Los Santos county EMS arrived on scene.

Patrol officers located the shooter on the rooftop of the property.  He was non responsive and was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary forensics indicate he was fatally wounded by Sgt. McCracken during their exchange of gunfire.

PO Jordan is currently in ICU in critical condition after surgery at Mt Zion.  Sgt. McCracken was treated at the hospital for a shoulder wound and has been discharged.  The shooter's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Sgt McCracken is an 11 year veteran of the LSPD and is currently a Patrol Supervisor.  Sgt. McCracken has previously served in the traffic division and as a member of the Violent Crimes Apprehension Team (VCAT) prior to his current posting.  Per LSPD policy, Sgt. McCracken will be assigned to administrative duty until an internal investigation of this incident is completed.  Dashcam & bodyworn camera footage will be released pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

All further inquires for this incident can be directed to the Los Santos Police Department Public Information Office via email at *****@*****.tld.
