LSPDFR starts in story mode & freezes (on Steam)

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

GTA5 (on Steam) starts in story mode and freezes on Windows 10 64bit, even after increasing the timeout threshold to 60,000 and ensuring LSPDFR is loaded via the Rage Hook. Below is a step by step history of what I've tried.

1) I purchased GTA5 on Steam today to play the game with LSPDFR. I initially started the application by double-clicking on the RAGE Hook, which started GTA5 on Steam. I saw references to LSPDFR during startup and there was a LSPDFR menu. However, the game started in "story mode" where you play a criminal during a bank heist. It was impossible to complete the mission because the criminals controlled by the AI kept running in the wrong direction and got stuck on a fence or a building. A friend of mine familiar with the game insisted that it was behaving strangely.

2) I restarted the game from Steam without LSPDFR and completed the level, progressing to the therapist's office. I quit the game during the next mission, where you play two guys stealing sports cars.

3) Now when I start the game through Steam and then start the RAGE Hook (or via the RAGE Hook directly), I see the therapist's office and then the screen turns black with a turning "load" circle in the lower right. My CPU continues to work hard--but nothing happens and there is no error message. I've waited more than 10 minutes. I changed the timeout threshold as suggested, but that did not solve my problem. I have no idea how to proceed.

I'd appreciate help diagnosing and correcting the problem. Do I need to complete "story mode" before trying LSPDFR? Should I reload everything from scratch? If so, how can I avoid the same result?

Thank you,

-d. vyd

Firstly, you must not be partaking in a mission while trying to play LSPDFR.

You need to be in freeroam, having completed the prologue like you've done.

If the issue still persists, attach your RagePluginHook log - a text document found in your main directory.

Thanks Charlie686. I had no idea about the log. It does show some network and other issues that I do not understand so I'm attaching it. My network is fine and I'm not playing in online mode. I finished the prologue, but haven't formally selected "freeroam"--do I need to?

Freeroam isn't something you select, it is just when you are free to go around the map without being in a mission etc.

You should be freeroaming as Franklin at the beginning.

In your lspdfr.ini could you set this please:

Networking.DisableServerCommunication = true

See if that helps at all.

Thanks. I changed lspdfr.ini  as you suggested but the issue remains, though those networking errors are no longer in the logfile (attached). During startup, I see the message "Loading story mode with RAGE Plugin Hook" and then "Loading LSPDFR". Then I see the therapy session begin and press "return" to skip it. Then I get a black screen and a loading circle in the lower right that NEVER ends...  I see a few warnings in the log but no real errors. I'd welcome any advice you have to offer!

RagePluginHook.log

Go into the RAGE settings and set no plugins to load on startup.

Then, enter GTAV and load LSPDFR in-game.

How does that go?

OK. I'll try that. In the case that I need to assume file corruption and reinstall the game, are there some files or directories I can backup up afterwards to speed up the reinstall process in the future? I want to avoid the 100GB download if it will take a few tries to get this right. I'm guessing I don't need to keep downloading the same texture maps, geometry, etc. Also, what character is that in your profile picture, the woman with the black hat, black jacket, and white handkerchief? She looks like a private eye.

If you'd like, you can copy your whole directory, but I really doubt that you'll need to do a fresh re-install.

However, it isn't really easy to just make the game not install certain stuff.

The woman in my profile picture is Santana Lopez from Glee, acted by Naya Rivera.

Glad you like it. 😄
