Need Help with new gaming system for GTA4 and all the cool mods!

Featured Replies

Greetings,

I have played the GTA series on consols since the first one. For the past year at least I would watch all the cool mods and such that are created for the PC version of the game. I know my Office Desktop that I have home will not even play the basic GTA4 (tried to install with steam... oads but terrible graphics and slow)... let alone play and look good with all the mods and such. So I just sit and watch and one day hope that I will get some extra cash to buy a decent system. Well that day has come!!!

Is there a pre-made system I can buy that will give me similar performance to what a lot of you have with all the mods... like Nutt's videos which make use of (ENB/ICE/PR8/ELS)? My budget is $2,000 - $2,500 if you could recommend a specific system (pre-built) on a popular retailers site... Where I would use the system just for playing GTA games. Im totally lost when it comes to the ins and outs of computers and what all the bios or whatever means.

Any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Ziggy

eBay. There is some great ones on there - or perhaps alienware.com also as you are in the US, have you considered "craigs list" I hear thats popular over there.

Alienware is overpriced shit, get a custom built one, and seeing as your budget is really high, you can get really good part's and probably spend $1700.00 or so, call your local computer store.

IM in NYC... So I dont trust these local "computer experts". Also I dont know what I should have as part of the rig... to be assured that I can run GTA without any issues and with cool life like graphics. Thats why I was hoping someone could simply refer a pre-built that would be awesome for GTA.

I saw this video:

Would this be an ideal system? Or is this already outdated?

Thank you guys for taking the time to reply.

Hey Slimory, thats for the reply. Shortly after I started this tread I looked up alienware.

If money was not an object... which one of them would you choose to play a full blown out version of GTA4 and that would be your only game really. I may use it for some basic graphics programs like coreldraw etc. But nothing that a B.S. PC cant handle. So im thinking if you or someone can refer me to the correct PC... maybe I can buy the right components an build a system with the help of a couple of you tube videos.

All this stuff confuses me. There are so many different graphics cards... power supplies mother boards. I just wanna do it right if spending $1500 - $2000 on a computer.

Again thanks for the help everyone!

I am not sure if trolling is going here or not, but do not buy a computer off of E-bay or craigslist. You are not sure what you will get, sure the price may be good but it is hit and miss on the quality of the product.

If you are looking to have one custom built for a fair price, with quality hardware and good support.

I suggest trying one of these companies.

Powernotebooks, despite the name they do custom built desktops and notebooks. I have used personally twice for notebooks and have several recommended acquaintances that were more than please with their service and product. They also offer very competitive pricing for upgrades, almost at cost or newegg/amazon cost.

Next up is Pudget Computers, while I have not personally used these guys but have read great things about them for the past few years.

Whoever you use or purchase from, just do your research. Do not rely on just one source to provide your input on what is or is not good.

Best of luck in hunting.

Hey Chevyman,

Im not sure what you mean by trolling?

I would never buy sight unseen unless it is from a major reputable company like Dell (alienware) or Newegg, BestBuy etc.

I have not heard of the 2 companies you reference but I will take a look-see

Thank you!

My Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, as the times I tired to post FR was down or having issues.

I was speaking of trolling, as in someone was maybe pulling your chain and seeing if you would go buy a system off craigslist or

ebay.

I would highly suggest reading the reviews and researching as much as you can before buying.

Personal notes: A little background before I go any further with my notes. I have been a freelance I.T. specialist for the past eleven years. Working with individuals and small(+2) to medium-small(under 100 employes) sized companies. During these years, I have built and maintained a little over a hundred custom built systems.

Throughout this time, I have tired most of the brands and a lot of models. The key is to have a good system is making sure you have quality parts and are very through with researching of the parts/company.

That being said, Dell/Alienware get the lowest bidders to send them white label or OEM prodcuts (motherboards, processors, ram, video cards, power supplies, etc) and then Dell/Alienware re-labels what they can and assembles the machinces. They then offer support for the systems.

Puget and Powernotebooks, do exactly the same except they offer better service and higher quailty products. When you buy from Powernotebooks, they ship you all of the discs you need and you actually know what motherboard is in your system, without having to lookup the dell number and then finding it that way.
