Recently, a friend started having an issue where RAGE Plugin Hook just stopped working out of the blue; it would start the game but be completely unable to hook it. Just yesterday, I also encoutered the exact same issue after restarting my computer several times trying to fix a completely unrelated problem. Literally nothing changed; it hooked the game, then it stopped being able to hook into it. I restarted my computer, which usually fixes that problem, and it just refused to hook altogether after that.

 

After hours of searching and finding the standard fixes that didn't apply to us like "rename your GTA V directory" or "disable your antivirus" (weeks of this for my friend), we discovered when looking back through the unofficial support discord's chat that it was the GeForce Experience overlay (aka Shadowplay). For some unknown reason, there is a conflict between Shadowplay and RAGE Plugin Hook.

At some point between the time that RPH was working and the time that it just decided to stop, I turned Shadowplay on to record some video and didn't turn it back off because I didn't remember why I turned it off in the first place. Evidently Shadowplay doesn't play nice with a lot of things.

 

Anyway, I'm posting this for visibility. It took my friend weeks to finally come across the answer, and now that he has, I want to make sure that the next person that has this problem doesn't have to jump through this many hoops. So if your RAGE Plugin Hook just refuses to hook the game no matter what and nothing else works, try disabling Shadowplay in your GeForce Experience settings.
