What Graphics Card Should I Use?

Featured Replies

So I'm finally coming over to PC GTA from Xbox One. With this comes a storm of mods and add-ons for the game, which is the main reason I'm purchasing it. However, I'm not sure if my PC is up to the task. Here are the specs.

Quad Core I7 (not sure which model)

16GBs of Ram

1 Terabyte Hard Drive (don't know the speed)

Nvidia GTX 460 (don't no how much vram, but I assume its 2-4gb)

I'm sure I said something stupid here (like my computer has 1 terabyte of memory),but if you are someone who actually knows PCs (again, unlike me) then feel free to reply.

Stay Safe,

That one guy who thinks his computer has 1 terabyte of memory

If you're on a somewhat comfortable budget, you can get away with something along the lines of a 1660 where you shouldn't really experience much lag for 1080p, 60 FPS. If you're on a tight budget something along the lines of a 1050 ti. But again, I'm not a professional. I recommend joining KristopherYee's Discord Server. Everybody is friendly and willing to help you since they've been into PC's for a *long* time.

Based off what you have posted, you're more than likely going to want to look into upgrades or spec'ing out an entirely new machine. I can't say much about your CPU, your RAM is probably DDR3 which can still be serviceable, a 1TB HDD is fine for storage but I would recommend an SSD for your operating system separate from everything else and that GPU is 10 years old sooo .. .yeah take that as you will.

I can't speak for sure on performance but I can't imagine it would be very good. I'm certain it would run at 1080p but you're going to have to make graphical concessions to achieve a serviceable frame rate.

Here is what I recommend. Determine what you expect performance wise when running the game (FPS and resolution), determine a budget for yourself whether you choose to upgrade or start from scratch and research, research and then research some more! You're gonna have to do a lot of the work yourself but there are plenty of people willing to help along the way! There are so many resources out there for you to learn from. I am privy to PCPartPicker myself and built my first system using their tools and community.

Thanks guys. I checked out the discord server and I got hooked up with some advice. Just gonna go with a 1070 for gpu. As for the hard drive, I've contemplated upgrading that for a while, but the biggest thing I would use it for would be editing and I just got a new macbook for that. I really don't know how good my cpu is, but it's from a prebuilt bought 5 years ago from CyberPower.  I think I remember how to check the model though, so I think i'll just google it and see how good it is. I know for a fact the ram is ddr4 but I think the 16gb will do fine, as I have know plans of streaming and recording. I'm on a budget so I can cut corners in a few places. The people I talked to said LSPDFR is more CPU heavy than it is GPU. I wanna confirm this is true, as I'm not sure the person knew what they were talking about when it came to LSPDFR.
