  1. Greetings everyone,

I have not gamed for about two years, because I am enjoying my real life too much! However, I recently got my laptop cleaned and have reinstalled GTA for fun.

However, I do have a problem, I have tried updating the game with the 1.0.7.0 patch, however the app that tries to do it, takes a couple of minutes trying to locate my game and then says 'error, - failed'.

Is there a fix to this please?

    thank you.

  2. Hi all,

I would love to lay GTA IV again (uninstalled in about April 2014) when I am not doing work, etc. But my several year old laptop was finally saying "NO!" after about a year and a half of playing on it! It just finally could not run the game any ore, even with various command-lines, and so called "Lag-fixes". (Which seem to be from YouTube videos where the up-loader can hardly spell to save his life, and has never heard of punctuation!)

So basically, if you have a bad computer for GTA IV LCPDFR, but you can run less-than-average/average and have a 'to make run better' list (command-lines, laptop battery settings, game settings, fix patches, etc) please let me know so I can try and play again!

So weighing up the pros and cons: Do I spend a couple of hours trying and then have my laptop overheat and shut down after 20mins of playing - or not?

  3. Hi, completely new to this....

Looking at buying this laptop so that I can run LCPDFR, any input/opinions would be welcome, just want to see if this laptop would run it, not looking for super speeds just run it at an okay level

    Specs:

    - 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-4200M processor

Features a 3MB L2 cache and 2.5GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz.

    - 8GB DDR3L SDRAM

    - 750GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)

    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 820M graphics Feature 2GB dedicated DDR3 video memory

I would appreciate you not "hi-jacking" the thread I started for your own personal questions. You are welcome to start your own topic in the correct forum section. I understand you are new, but just saving you the problems in the future with rules and Amin staff.

    Many thanks and good luck,

    Fbo194

  4. First of all, I'd like to point out that GTA5 is listed for a preliminary date as Fall '14

Second, I would recommend *not* going off a suggest build only, but ALSO only going for something which specs have *already been tested with LCPDFR*

Its no secret that GTA4 is a strange optimized game. I have an AMD dual crossfire setup that statistically should run GTA4 fine, but it runs barely playable(with CFX on and off, even though GTA4 does have a profile...). And with GTA4, the specific card matters more than picking Nvidia over AMD.

~ I know several guys with Nvidia setups technologically superior to my setup, and they actually have *worse* performance in GTA4.

Again, it doesn't matter the power of card, the manufacturer, or series. What matters is if its been tested and proven to work well with GTA4(as I assume LCPDFR is your main focus besides COD, which is an easy hand.)

And off your budget, you may want to look at pre-built. Custom built/assembled PC's only become cost efficient at higher prices. in a lower price-range, pre-built PC's are far more worth their money(specifically because of the bundled operating system, which you won't want win 8, and win xp ceases to be supported, meaning I'd suggest looking at Win 7 pre-built machine for the cheapest cost/hardware&OS).

I'm sorry, I have to cut you off there. First of all, because an Intel i7 2 core workbook processor will handle better than an AMD hex-core, and specifically better than an intel quad core i5 on low scale.

On top of that, GTA4 is only multi-threaded optimised for 4 cores(maybe 2, don't remember), but certainly not 6.

@ OP: a 2 core will suffice, esp if its a higher grade core. However, higher power cores introduce insane heat levels, which you do have to watch out for.

the suggested graphics card(GTX760 - 2GB), you may want to examine changing to a GPU with more VRAM. GTA4 does do a lot of rendering, however, there is also a significant texture amount(which I personally have trouble handling with a 2GB base VRAM).

@ davelaric, your suggested build, an H100i would not fit in. Most cases you could fit an H100i in, are only E-ATX & XLATX cases.

If you have any questions directly, feel free to PM me, I am not active on forums often.

Thanks very helpful post with some good points.

  5. Okay added both windows 7 and a 1080p monitor. The monitor isnt the best but it'll suffice. Had to drop the CPU and mobo to a new intel pentium chip. Its only a dual core but since you have an after market CPU cooler you can OC it up to 4Ghz (Higher if you liquid cool such as a H100i) Also threw in a SSD for wayyyy faster boot times and overall OS speed so make sure to install windows 7 on the SSD, not the HDD. Total cost comes to £660

Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

Thanks very much, I am away today, but will have a proper look this evening. I really appreciate the help, now let me just try and build it correctly!

Thanks, so will dual core suffice for LCPDFR with mods, and decent graphics/frame rate, or should it be 4 or 6, like Yard1 was saying?

Off now, so will reply later Yard1 and Dave! Thanks again.

  6. Can't you connect the PC to your TV?

Unfortunately no, so I would need a monitor, not an amazing one, but one that has fairly good quality and not too big or small.

Okay, yes you can get windows 7 but I would *cough* be a pirate *cough because it is so expensive. I'll have to drop somethings so it fits into your budget. Max is £600.00 correct?

Okay that is good about W7 :)

Max is £600.00, but I am willing to go another £50-100 if it will really benefit me, but no further than £700.00.

  7. Here is the link build. If you can, i would highly recommend throwing in some extra money and pick up a 120GB SSD.

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/davelaric/saved/TJsnTW

Wasn't sure if you needed any peripherals/OS/Monitor so didnt include them. If you want em, tell me and ill re-do the build for your budget.

P.S if the prices are not in the right currency, go to the top right corner and select United Kingdom.

Thanks very much, if you don't mind including monitor and (is it possible to have Windows 7 rather than 8 these days?) WIndows 7, that would be great, thanks.

  8. If I was you I would do some research of my own (Google). Get an understanding of the iterations of graphics cards Nvidia  and AMD. Same with the CPU's Intel and AMD. Next year when you are actually planning to buy the PC you will have a decent understanding of PC hardware and where to get the best advice in buying/building your own PC.

You decide what PC to get when you are actually going to buy it. Not a year in advance.

Good point, I will do research along the way, with the help from Yard1, and then when I can afford/ready to buy, can do so and build!

  9. From what I know many computer shops offer a service that will build the PC from the parts you have selected for some extra cost.

You will not find a good premade PC. It is either going to be very cheap due to weak parts, or overpriced. If you can't find that service, you should try to build it. It might look hard, but it is designed that you won't be able to put things into places they are not supposed to be. Watch a few YouTube videos, read a bit online - it is easy!

Okay so the best bet is to get the parts you showed me (or similar ones) and build it, or get someone else to build it for you?

  10. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vpXcGX

A bit over the budget, you can left the CPU cooler out (the CPU comes with some, and while it gets its job done, it is a lot louder).

Let's compare this with the one you posted, shall we?

CPU - the one your build has is not bad, but it is not really a gaming CPU. FX-6350 will be a way better option.

GPU - now, the GPU in the build you posted is a joke. The one in my build is at least 2 times better. Seriously, the HD8570 is not even a gaming GPU.

PSU - Notice how the name and the brand of the PSU are not specified in the build you posted. That means it is a cheap Chinese PSUs that will most likely fry your PC. Here you are getting a quiet, reliable PSU from a known company.

Everything else is more or less the same.

I do understand that it is 2 times as expensive as your build, but seriously, you won't regret buying the parts I posted, and that PC from your post will struggle with GTA IV, and not to mention other modern games.

Thanks very much for you help Yard1, I see what you mean about cheap rip-off ones, it is just annoying that they seem to spam the eBay pages!

The only thing is I have no knowledge of building any computers at all, and wouldn't really be very comfortable with attempting to build my own.

I would like to get a pre-made one, though one from a good manufacturer, know any?

    Thanks

  11. Hi all,

Have been thinking of getting a desktop PC recently, as my 2011 non-gaming laptop is no longer up to running IV with LCPDFR and other mods.

I am basically looking for a computer to run IV with LCPDFR, decent amount of car, ped and script mods, and also Call of Duty, but also watch films and use the internet.

So basically is this right for me and the current price, bear in mind I wouldn't want to spend much more than £500-£600 and I am looking to buy end of next summe-rish, maybe Easter or even Christmas, but probably not before 2015.

    Thanks a lot.

  12. I believe the correct term would be a slideshow, regardless of that, you've got some lovely pictures here. The Land Rover Defenders are really cool.

I'd suggest adding some music though, as I lost interest half-way through.

Thankyou for your feedback, I did want to add some music but wasn't sure what would be right for these slideshows - any suggestions? And yes those Defenders are very nice!

  13. Hi all,

Just in case anyone was interested (particularly British people) I have created two short slideshows (collection of pictures in video format) of the Royal Air Force Police (RAFP) and Royal Navy Police (RNP).

    Here are the links:

    -RAF Police:

    -RN Police:

[Please note I did not take any pictures but have just compiled them and edited them together].

I would like to add some music, so them both, so what would people like (genres, etc), please leave feedback below.

    Hope people like it, thanks.

  14. Yeah, I heard about this. The captain and some of his crew are fucking cowardly human beings. The captain told all of these kids to stay where they were. moments later, he abandoned ship leaving all of these kids to die. If he had stayed, and given instructions to these passengers, he could of easily saved hundreds of lives. but, he didn't. He abandoned a ship full of kids and let them die.

If i had it my way, I would break both of his arms, both of his legs, and leave him in the middle of the ocean to die.

    But, I don't.

It was horrendous and my prayers are with all those involved, but you shouldn't jump to conclusions, although I agree as Captain he is ultimately in charge of everyone else's safety and him and his crew should have evacuated other passengers before leaving themselves.

But we can all be clever with hindsight.

  15. I found it's worked perfectly for me, but I guess Unr3al disagrees and I believe he's probably more experienced than me anyway. To be sure, I'd just get someone to clean it properly for you.

Okay thanks Tom I probably will get someone to do it probably for me! And then if maybe use can in the future.

If your laptop can breath, I would advise that you call a professional! But in all seriousness, it's probably a dust build up, you can take it apart and clean it or use a compressed air can like said above, I got my PC back in 2010 and I haven't cleaned it since, thanks for reminding me

:) Thanks and yours must be a bit grim inside!
