  1. Ive got a good computer too, and i can only run at high, not maximum... and even then sometimes i get a little lag when lots of custom cars get loaded... GTA4 uses LOTS of CPU, you have to have a good CPU to get anywhere.

I went from this set up...

dual core amd (2.0ghz or something), 4gb ram, nvidia 9800 GTX+ graphics

    Ran on MINIMUM settings, Barely...

    To this one.

top of the range I5, 4gb ram, nvidia 9800 GTX+

Ran on medium / high perfectly fine

Then i just put more ram in it (now 8gb), and im running on high settings without problems... I just cant put everything to high for some reason, it thinks that cuz i have a 512mb card it wont load anything else... Even though its perfectly capable of passing regular ram through the cpu over to the graphics card without problems (if it needed to), idk. haha...

    But overall....

This game was designed and coded for a gaming system. Lots of processors with nice caches on them. They have super fast access to the cache, and use that instead of ram - its a different set up than a PC. Its basically a massive graphics card that can be used for processing (a computer is the other way around, its a processing machine that is capable of producing graphics)

When they re coded it for PC they were lazy... They never did it properly, they just made it so it would 'run' on a pc. Of course, a PC uses the resources it has much differently than a game system - but it didnt matter, it ran and they were happy... CPU usage is through the roof with this game. It pages stuff in and out of memory way too often, etc. etc... Those things are acceptable in a PS3 or something, because thats exactly what they were designed for... Computers are not designed for that.

Whats worse, is that if its done properly a computer is an amazing gaming machine. In some instances better than a PS3, but if the game engine is not designed for a computer, its not going to run correctly. It WILL run slower, and it will use resources that it shouldn't need to.

Hopefully those issues will be fixed with gta5

  2. Yeah, the G25 is awesome, the G27 looks really good too!

I manged to map the wheel buttons to the keyboard, but it seems that whenever the game receives a keyboard input of any kind, it wont steer to the right, until i steer hard to the right. I would love to get a program to give me a 'virtual' deadzone, but i dont think thats going to happen.

  3. About the green lights. Its to my understanding that those systems are mainly installed on ambluances and fire trucks. All the intersections near me are equipped with the system and they change for ambulances and fire, but never for police. They told me they just have to deal with it. And yore supposed to slow down and clear the intersection no mater what color it is when youre running code anyway.

The system here where I live uses a type of infa-red strobe mounted on the top of the trucks. Someone in a city near me was ticketed for having one installed in his car,a few years ago

  5. So i have my steering wheel working with GTA4... Its awesome. But theres one problem (actually, two but one isnt such a big deal)

Every time i press a key on the keyboard, the car will not turn right. When i turn the wheel slightly to the right, the car turns to the left instead! It will only turn to the right again, if i steer hard to the right. And then the problem comes back after i press another button.

As you can see, this is quite a problem with you are running with lights and sirens, or want to use the horn. Or if you are using a radar mod or something, where you want to press a button all the time to lock speeds in, etc. etc...

    So.... My question is.

Is there a program where i can map joystick buttons to keyboard buttons (that is free of course)? That way i can have my horn, ELS lights, etc. etc. etc. mapped to the wheel, so it wont do the whole funky steering thing whenever i use a keyboard input.

I have a Logitech g25, and im using a USB keyboard (if that makes any difference)

The other problem, is that all my inputs (all the axis'), have two 100% points.

Eg: if i steer to the right (or left), at 10 degrees it is 50%, then 20 deg is 100%, but then 21% is 0%, all the way to 300 deg (where i have the wheel set up to be max rotation) is 100%. Half way between 20 and 300 would be 50%, you get what im saying?

    same thing with the pedals.

I press down, and its very sensitive for the first few millimeters, then its as if i took my foot off, and increases slowly all the way to the floor.

    Any ideas?

    THANK YOU!

  6. Yeah the search just drives me nuts :) but im glad you guys reduced it from like 5 or whatever it was before :D

I never noticed that after installation it gave me a list. Is there any way at all to re map it, or is that not implemented yet?

I never had this problem before, it seemed to randomly start...

Does anyone know why it could have started loading the video editor when i press F7?

Anyway, thank you for your help!

  7. So im having this problem where if i press F7 to go busy, it loads the video editor in GTA:IV

Its quite annoying, because when it loads the video editor, after its done it starts off with a brand new game.

I would love to use the search function on the site, but for some reason i cant search for any fewer than 3 characters. Honestly... What's the point in having a search if authenticated users cant even search for something like that? You cant search for anything related to any kind of key binding, because keys are all either one or two letters?! This is something that is Very annoying...

So... I want to stop callouts, will i have to totally reinstall LCPDFR, and disable callouts, or what?

    -Rushlink

  8. Yeah ive done a ride along with my local PD, but hadnt noticed the letters till last week :)

Thanks for your reply, it makes sense now :)

Also, where are you a sheriffs deputy in Florida? Im probably moving to St Petersburg / Tampa area in January - anywhere near your department?

  9. Ok. So when im listening to the police scanner, when an officer is done with something they'll say "unit# im clear" then a letter. (sam, roger, ocean, etc...)

    What do these mean?

ive been paying attention to that bit for days, and cant figure it out. haha :)

ran a google search, and cant find much. haha

Oh and i'm in Weld county, Colorado (so they're using the weld county communications stuff), if that makes any difference?

    Thanks!

  10. I think that would be amazing. There are a few things that i want to integrate with LCPDFR! When you say the next release, are you speaking of 0.95 - release, or something after that?

And working in the .net framework would be good, i have no LUA experience at all. :(

  11. WAIT HOLD ON! my computer is a SR5505F (compaq P......). It said AM2, but does it support AM3, for sure??

    That would be EPIC.

    You have me excited :D

And my PSU is upgraded idk like 800 watts or something, lol. In a pinch at best buy (i blew the last one up), and i had to get a new one!

im using win 7 with aero turned off. And nope, not much money to spend on the computer. haha $150 max i think :)

  12. Ok, so i have been using this computer for a while, its great for everything but GTA4.

    Here's my current specs.

    AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (2.2ghz / 1mb l2 cache)

    Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX (512mb? could be 1gb, i forget)

    4gb ram

Now im running the changes specified in another thread (with commandline.txt or whatever), and that increased my FPS by probably 5fps average, i think -- that is running the benchmark (which says 18-23fps, which btw is totally wrong compared to actual gaming results, lol)

I always set GTA4 to high priority, and all my other settings on low :(

Today i tried setting the affinity of all other programs (apart from steam) to core 1, and steam to core 0&1. Now that starts up all the GTA stuff to both processors, and everything else was thrown onto the processor that GTA seemed to use less of.

That gave me 4 more fps average. (22-27fps).

    Yesterday i ordered a new processor - AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3ghz / 2mb l2 cache)...

Is that going to allow me to run the game without having to set all my settings to low and stuff?

Im pretty sure that the processor is the bottleneck here, am i right?

    Thanks!
