  1. When you get near to running out of ram, the system will use the page file. At that point, it will write the RAM to the hard drive instead.

Windows will then page sections of memory in and out of the RAM/pagefile.

If at any point your hard drive is full (not able to use the pagefile), and your RAM starts filling up, windows will pop up and tell you exactly that.

Your computer is fairly old, the specs are fairly low... If you upgrade to a more current system it will clear up most of your problems.

All in all.... if you ran out of ram you would get a different error. The game would never attempt to write to ram that doesn't exist, that's in the nature of how it was programmed. Your problem lies in that 1. you need to run as admin, 2. your ram is corrupt, or 3. there is something wrong with the game, and it's not compatible with your system setup (which is unlikely).

Your pagefile may also be stored on a corrupt portion of hard drive. Try disk defragment and see if that clears up the problem.

Furthermore, the RAGE engine directly interfaces with the ram, on a system level (system and assembly code), unlike other engines that interface with the ram through windows. GTA:IV was the first game that really pushed RAGE to it's limits, and therefore there are lots of issues with the engine --- as we all know (performance related, etc.)...

    Also...

Without the pagefile, on 2gb of ram the game would never get past the loading screen. Once you are in game, around 2gb of ram is being used solely by IV (on top of that you have windows... that's .25gb / .5gb depending on your version). additionally, a minimum of 250mb will be used on your video card.

  2. Well, most cities try to refrain from doing the PIT when there's a lot of cars parked on the street or there's a lot of buildings like in NYC or there's a lot of people, again, like in NYC, LOL. I think most agencies do it when there's the least collateral damage to be done. (Like civilians' cars being hit from the PIT and etc. I know if someone was that greedy for money they could file a lawsuit.)

If i remember correctly, the use of a vehicle in such that it intentionally comes into contact with another (eg: ramming, bumping, or pushing) considered lethal force in most states? I remember reading something about this in Florida and Colorado at least.... But i think its safe to say that if Florida made it illegal, the only place it might still be legal would be Texas...

Unless done 100% correctly, this would make the PIT lethal force. Because the PIT is 'precision', it is not considered lethal force if done CORRECTLY. But, if an officer screws up in the slightest or someone gets hurt they could be liable for the result and possibly face criminal charges (just as if an officer shot someone for no reason).

Most of the time, during a pursuit a spike strip or similar device will be used to end the pursuit - its safer, cheaper and easier to train on, that's why most departments don't use the PIT.

  3. Actually, it'll be running on an updated version of the RAGE engine, more of the likes what Max Payne 3 used.

Looking at the trailer, the engine doesn't look too different (vehicles and peds act in the same way. Nothing "new" that i saw at all), maybe a few updates here and there, but nothing too 'major' on the front end.

I'm guessing that the most of the changes will be back-end performance related upgrades, and of course graphics. Maybe they've re-worked it and it'll work properly on PC?

  4. Nice website. :) that'll definitely come in handy.

This thread reminded me of why i dont like the internet. Kids posting a question and then when you tell them 'no' or the opposite of what they "want to hear" they just say "i'm sure it will work" or "well i'll get another opinion". Man...... so glad i dont have kids.

As i said in my first post...

    It'll work.

Will it run well? ... no.

Desktop cpu's and mobile CPU's are totally different. Current desktop I3's will run curcles around I7's from 2 years ago in terms of 'actual preformance'

Oh and your windows "settings" have no effect on the current clock speed. The clock speed is controlled by the processor (in the I series). It can be modified, but windows does not modify it through the 'settings' that you have selected.

The CPU will only increase the clock speed if and when it is determined that you need that 'extra' boost. Aparantly when your system is idiling your CPU has determined that 2.4ghz is not sufficiant to run your pc.

  5. Okay......

Intel has two clock speeds posted for their I series processors...

The base clock and the Turbo clock.

Based on your current workload the processor will adjust and run faster (up to and until the processor deems it more efficiant to run at a slower speed or the temperature becomes too high(which isn't a problem with intel really)).

Since 90% of the 'boost' is based on your current workload, the fact that you stated you are ALWAYS running at 2.7 shows me that you have a faily processor intensive setup already. GtaIV will most likely not manage to run on that setup. Now... If you were constantly running at your base 2.4ghz you might have a chance of running it smoothly, as your processor has much more room to increase its clock speed.

Your laptop will not sustain 3.0 ghz for very long - maybe an hour maximum.

And are you tryng to say you have all of those processors in one computer? i was confused by your last sentence

  6. Your processor is a 2.4ghz, not a 3.0ghz.

Turbo on that processor is 3.0ghz - not a sustainable speed.

It'll run it... But not very well.

I am running gta4 on a top of the line laptop with the fastest mobile I7, and a 2tb nvidia graphics card in it... still sucks compared to my desktop (i5 2500k with nvidia 1tb card)

  7. Alt+T will only work if you have MP AI ELS enabled.

The resaon that it is "very slow" is the same reason as if you were to attempt to take a video of a real lightbar with a crappy camera.

Your game does not sync it's objects, models, textures every .5ms. More like once a second or greater (this is also dependent on your latency). It appears "very slow" because when the game sync's with other MP clients it essentially takes a 'snapshot'.

The reason the ALT+T method works... When AI activate their siren in game your client will start up the animations for that vehicle. If you have ALT+T enabled when ELS is looking for police cars with sirens enabled it will view your friend's car as AI with sirens (essentially).

It really wouldn't have been very hard to build multiplayer support in to ELS when it was being built. Seeing as the guy who made it won't be coming back any time soon we're going to have to start to look for other options regarding lighting systems for emergency vehicles in GTAIV multiplayer.

  8. Not old news any more, as the massive attack is post to happen Monday....

Quite right about not old news; however, there is no attack on Monday. The problem is that the clean DNS servers will be shut of on July 9th, 2012.

That means that if you did not clean your computer (if you were infected), you will start having issues on the 9th of July 2012.

  9. As far as the real car... It's AWESOME :) the PD at my parent's residence just bought an unmarked one a few months ago, it looks really nice! Oh and can you imagine the number of people you'll get since you aren't drivning a CVPI anymore? :)

But yeah, the scale is off... by a lot. The caprice is probably slightly bigger than a 'premier' (in game), as the premier is roughly the same vehicle as the Aveo 4 door

The car is 'slightly' off. you're looking for something like this.

The model is just a little too boxy i think, but overall it's great start :)

  10. ------ EDIT ------

Actually, looking at his post, he isn't asking about legality. In that case, I'd assume he has asked someone who knows the situation, and has confirmed that he's within the law. So, I'd say that talking about legality is sort of pointless, and to just point him to cheap lights.

And he looks about 16... When you were 16 was the legality of something high on your priority list?

  11. What kind of lightbar do you have? That sounds odd that your relays are under your seat, are you in a crown vic? The only time ive ever had a lightbar make annoying clicking sounds is when you open your door and are standing near it. ELS clicks constantly, not only when the outside lights light up (where those lights would be).

Eg: els clicks around once every 1ms. All the lightbars ive seen with this 'issue' click around once every 1 second

Doesn't ELS attach different objects with different texture maps...so it refreshes objects AND textures, not one or the other. Either way, I don't really see how that changes the fact that an ELS car with its lights on is essentially indestructible.

Yes, you are right. adding objects wont reload the car... updating the texture does.

  12. ...

'Personally i think if a person is in custody they should be removed from the generate names completely' This is in place because sometimes you can treat them as if they have escaped, but yes the amount of times you get a person in custody is a bug and I believe this is due to the system running low on names

This is actually a bug. We will address this once Constable and I can get to work on it again.

It happens far too often, so its just a matter of reducing the frequency... Wont be hard, but I dont want to go changing any files when i haven't done any work on that specific part of the system recently. That's why we've been waiting till het gets back

  13. Decopmiled it. :) It essintally adds / changes the texture... maybe it adds an object to it as well, but adding the object won't refresh the model, its the texture that does that.

In most cases when you add an object to a vehicle, you will reload the texture. Creating an object and then attaching that to the vhicle wouldn't reload the texture/vehicle, and probably should have been the way to do it.

About that being a bug, i misread something in the config. :) thought it said something along the lines of "when change sfx" where actually it is flash sound fx.

And if its supposed to be there, its way too loud :) i've never heard relays that loud before and ive been in quite a few cars with LED bars on them.

What also led me to believe it was a bug is that it ALWAYS clicks... In real life it only clicks when the high intensity bulbs (usually on the edges of the bar, acting as strobes or similar) flash... not when the LED's flash.

  14. Actually, from my research so far what happens is that ELS reloads the texture of the vehicle whenever the lighting pattern is updated.

The clicking noise is a bug, and can be disabled in the config

I'm working on an alternative to ELS right now. Allows vehicle damage of course :) in the end i want it to support custom flash patterns, custom light positions, etc... Still a WIP of course. I'm hoping to release the first version pretty soon which will support 3 primary lighting modes (as real light bars do), 3 warning light modes and 3 white-light modes.

Before summer is out im hoping to have multiplayer support, and custom flash pattern support for single player (multiplayer custom flash pattern will take longer).

  15. im fairly sure that in Colorado at least to have blue or red lights on your vehicle you must be a sworn LEO, or it has to be an emergency services vehicle. Using it on your POV will get you arrested for impersonating a police officer.

Even as a sworn LEO, i think in CO you cant put them on your POV.

As far as placing it on your POV, im fairly sure the laws in the rest of the USA reflect what it is in CO in regards to this.

If I was a cop and i saw someone in a 2011 tarus with a lightbar on it, they'd be getting it confiscated.

    Think about it this way.

Have you passed the EVOC course? Everyone else with blue and red's have... and that's why they're allowed to use them!

you will probably be stuck with orange/amber and white. In CO, white is illegal unless you're on a motorcycle during the day. so idk about white.
