Should probably upgrade to a 750TI you can find them relatively cheap now and it should definitely set you in the right direction for GTA V. Otherwise be ready to play on very very low settings.
Why? A 650 isnt the weakest thing out there. His 7 year old CPU and his RAM is probably more of a concern tbh.

Wow, thank you all for your help. I tried running the game with the lowest possible settings on my current PC, however there was about a five second lag every two seconds (not playable unfortunately lol) So i'm thinking of just buying a new computer. I'm from England, and there was a few I've seen for around £450 which seem to be over the minimum requirements. What do you guys think, should i just do that?
Thanks again for all of your help. I can not wait to start playing!
like aabove, don't buy a prebuilt. Honestly, you won't get a good gaming experience if you buy pre built. You can build a decent rig if you are in the UK for around £550-650. Depends on how much you are willing to futureproof/spend.

Yes, perhaps not an i7, but an Intel Core i5 with a similar clock speed.
The 980 is too expensive, but actually you (N4Cer) should take a look at this EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GBit in GTA V here). I noticed that the 970 that you chose had a lower base clock speed, even though it had more video memory, but 2GB vs 4GB does not show much of a difference (video comparison), and this card has a significantly higher clock speed, which is evident in the benchmark video. My friend actually owned this 970 with 4GB of video memory and was getting only 40 FPS in GTA V on full settings.
(my reply made in somewhat of a rush, maybe didn't consider everything)
Either your friend has an AMD CPU that is bottlenecking the GTX970 or its not a 970. I have an Asus Strix 970 and run the gun with near max settings (except grass and msaa) and easily get a stable 60fps with vsync on. 60-80 without. I'm assuming your friend has an AMD CPU as the 970 is much better than the 960.
And as mentioned before, try to go Intel if you can. I had an FX-6350 clocked at 4.4Ghz and it definitely bottlenecked my game till I switched and bought an used 3570k. Huge difference in performance. There is no point to go I7 especially if you are on a budget as you'll see such little difference in gaming performance. Pick up a I5-4460 and a cheaper Z97/H97 board and you'll be set. It'll perform better than the FX. That also allows you to upgrade down the road to a better i5 or even i7.
*Also, why the heck would you get a 980? An overclocked 970 matches the performance of a 980 and he should be more focused on a better CPU. The 970 is perfectly fine...

Hey! I'd be glad to help you out. Generally speaking, when getting into PC gaming, you need a good enough PC. To check your specs do the following
1. Click start then run (Or Press Window Button + R to open run)
Then type "dxdiag". Then click Yes and you will see your computers specsPlease post a picture of those specs here and we'll go from there.
Here's the specs from Rockstar, as to what they recommend, and what the minimum requirements are.
I have a Intel Core I7 and I had to modify the settings quite a bit to get it to play without lag, you will need to know what you're doing when it comes to configuring things for it to work smoothly.
An i7 doesn't mean you will always run the game perfectly. An i7 isn't needed to run games as it is more based towards editing and rendering due to hyperthreading and other features. Also GTA is a heavy game on the GPU so if you have a bad GPU, could be why. Even with my I5-3570k from years ago and a new GTX 970, running the game maxed without MSAA and a crap ton of mods, (30+) still get 60-80FPS. Just to point out an I7 doesn't mean you can run everything :)
-
Those are all very expensive CPU's. An Intel 4460 would suffice perfectly and get an average Z97 board or if you are really on a budget, a H97. With this, you'll also have potential to upgrade to an higher end model later if you ever want to as they use the same LGA socket. The graphic card is somewhat limiting but depending on how much you can spend, just leave it for now.

$190 for the CPU
Mobo is 85 bucks plus a 10 mail in rebate so 75.

This combo is great for just gaming. Also, I would FOR SURE get new RAM. Ram is super cheap now so if you can shell out for this kit, 100% worth it as all new games need 8GB of RAM to run smoothly.

that would be amazing if you could do that.

It shows all the parts one by one and where the cheapest prices are for each of them.
Here's the system (pretty much the same, yours is probably a bit faster) running GTA V at very high settings (Pretty much max) at a stable 60FPS

Can anyone recommend any good gpus and CPUs?
You have a 700$ budget correct? I'll put together a 700$ part by part and link it to you shorty if you'd like.

This is a good computer for its pricepoint cheap and that 8 core is a good CPU, unless you want an intel i can find you one possibly for 600$Never buy pre built. Also that GPU barley cuts it for GTA V and newer games. You can buy your own parts and assemble it yourself for much cheaper and better performance. It may sound scary but it isn't that hard and it's a great experience.

As people already said, the AMD does get bottlenecked on single core games. Going from an FX6350 oc @ 4.5Ghz to an I5-3570k made a huge difference in games such a GTA V, Arma 3. I personally would try to find an used I5-3570k so you can overclock it and the performance is better than the 4460 but this is an old chip so upgrade potential isn't the greatest. Also, this is strictly my experiences, I would go for the GTX970 if you are playing at 1080p as it overclocks way better than the R9 390 and we see a more lean towards Nvidia in terms of optimization for games. If you are playing at higher res, go for the R9.

600$ is a tight budget so building a rig is probably the only way to go. Get an used I5-3570k or 4460 with a R9 270X. If you are willing to build, I can teach you and put together parts and walk you through the process. It's not that hard and actually quite simple. Feel free to PM me :)
-
Why 16GB? There's no need for that especially when you could put more money into other parts unless you are doing hardcore rendering even though with the FX, isn't that much.

Hi guys I am going to buy a ram memory and I'd like opinions Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL9 and HyperX Savage 16GB (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 CL9, Thank you for your attention.
Same memory, just different speeds. If there are no price differences, get the 1866Mhz, if there is, go with 1600Mhz. You don't see gaming performance differences between the two. In simple terms, get the cheaper one.

sounds like a driver failure. Use this to remove all your graphic drivers

And reinstall. Make sure its the right version.

Hi! I am looking to build a PC and I am wondering if this build would wok and wouldn't be bottlenecking anything: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MNsBRB I know that the motherboard doesn't have on-board USB 3.0 headers so I am going to buy this adapter if is it compatible: http://goo.gl/0uE7us
If anyone could let me know if everything will work as it should I would be really happy! Thank you! :)
Looks solid! One question though, do you plan on upgrading in the future to a higher end I5 or I7? And a couple things I would change is one, the GPU brand. Zotac doesn't have the best cooler/overclock head room out their for the 900 series. If you can pick up a Gigabyte 970 G1 Gaming or Asus Strix 970, they'll perform nicer just because overclocking can give you that extra 10-20FPS. And also I HIGHLY recommend getting a cheap and small 120GB SSD. You can pick em up for like 40 bucks on amazon and trust me, once you go SSD, you can't go back. Other than that, looks great!
*and why a micro ATX board...? Doesn't look as pretty in a the S340 :(
-
can you even upgrade a laptop!?
Very very limited, usually only SSD's as laptops have soldered parts.
To OP, as others have said, building is the best way to go. You can build a decent rig for 500-650 bucks that'll out perform any prebuilt store PC. If you are willing to do that, that's the best way. If you are really on a budget, depending on your specs, you can pick up a GTX750Ti or R9 270X that'll run GTA V decently but as mentioned before, depends on the other specs you have.
Originally I got an Asus Laptop from BestBuy for about $860 but it wouldn't play GTA V well. The guy there told me about the Alienware Alpha and recommended an i5 or i7 for GTA V but said the i3 with at least 8GB of RAM "should" work on low-med settings. My issue was FPS, but now I have no issues (Mod crashes aside, grrr! lol). The AW i3 is really nice. IMO.
Alienware is way overpriced. Literally the Apple version of PC gaming xD

Well, it turns out RH was pretty pissed about one of the texture, lighting mod
I completely removed x64a.rpf, update.rpf and patchday3ng folder and let Steam reinstall them.
Sounds like on of your mods are corrupt, those mods don't affect LSPDFR because I am using x64a, x64e, x64w and update.rpf with over 50 different mods like lighting, timecyc, grasslod's, and more. Try checking to make sure if its not a outdated plugin. Also please for the sake of my browser, please put the log in a spoiler or attach it as a file. 16GB RAM can't even handle this single page cause of a mile long text. Thanks

Thanks, just updated it, game launches fine...I can see the police departments, but when I hit F4 I get no console coming up.. I use a ps4 controller, but that shouldn't matter as other mods have worked when F4 is pressed.. Any help would be appreciated.
Is the trademark "Ragehook" in the bottom right hand corner of the game?

i have the steam version
Hm, try redownloading the newest version and reinstall.

Oh so the Plugin on the site isn't the updated version? RAGE Plugin Hook - Open Alpha - 0.17.639.4039 Released 07/19/2015 13:02:26
So do the files still need to go into the main gtav folder? I have them in the mod folder and mod manager loads them in.
Just drop it into the main folder and overwrite existing files. Then it should work. Thanks for the update!

Build a desktop. PLEASE. It isn't that hard and the performance for the price you get will beat everything in a store. Along with what other's have said, laptops aren't meant for gaming so might as well get a desktop and maybe a cheaper laptop for whatever uses you need it for. If you need any help getting started on the PC building field, PM me and I'll be glad to help you out :)
*And that envy isn't that good for gaming, especially with what you can build for 700 bucks*
