Snow in Blaine County

DukSezQuak

While last night was sunny and nice, residents of Blaine County are awoken to a surprise.

It has snowed overnight, and roads are covered in snow. Snow is in the forecast for the next couple of days.

"It's really early... Too early!" said one resident.

And though it seems extremely early, it is here, and it is already hampering Emergency Service Crews.

"We've had multiple calls for service, ranging from motor vehicle collisions to trapped individuals" said Deputy Sheriff Jones from the Blaine County Sheriff's Office.

"It's highly encouraged that, until the roads have been plowed and conditions improve, that if you don't need to travel, then don't."

Law Enforcement Officials are encouraging drivers that do have to drive over the next couple of days to follow these tips:

-Double the normally suggested following distances for vehicles. This means, instead of two car lengths between each small vehicle, double it to four car lengths, or more. For larger vehicle Police recommend increasing the car lengths up to six to eight car lengths or more.

-Always keep your eyes on the road, watching for snow drifts or ice patches.

-Limit your speed. Although the signs may say to do a specific speed, in conditions such as these, it may be dangerous. Police encourage drivers to slow their speed by at least 10-20 km/h.
