Possible Security Risk to files

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm posting this because recently my file was hidden by a guest account. There seems to have been a glitch which allowed all guest accounts to edit and manage my file, and I can not get rid of these permissions (It seems to be granted as a contributor). Not only can I not get rid of this, but I also cannot un-hide the file. Apparently I don't have permission to do that. I also added another contributor to try to unlock it, and they also don't have permission to do this. I also know it was not a moderator who hid the file, because I never recieved a message about it prior to the discovery of this, and have already heard back from one moderator (Not much the mods can do for now).

If anyone has run into this before, and has had it fixed, please let me know what I can do! Also, I'd recommend making sure you don't have anything wrong with your contributor perms.

I'll be investigating what happened here, but it looks like somehow a null member (which IPS considers guest) somehow found it's way into the contributor list. This is most likely an innocent mistake. In the next few minutes I'll be updating our code to ignore null members in the contributor list and automatically erase them.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It looks like this was caused by a bug in the contributor system, that essentially added a null member ID contributor to certain files if a certain unlikely series of events occured (as far as I can ascertain only yours and 1 other were affected).

I've now fixed this and added extra hardcoded precautions so this can't happen again. I've unhidden your file.

Thank you very much for the quick response!
