Michigan House Passed Bill Allowing EMTs To Refuse Treatment To Gay People

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend, Republicans in the Michigan Statehouse passed a “license to discriminate” bill that would give just about anyone the right to refuse service to LGBT people if it conflicted with their religious beliefs.

Opinions?

Personally, I'll go straight to the point, I find this completely retarded. In which era are we living in? Middle Age? The more we go in time, the more we see appearing inequalities and intolerance when it should be the other way around.

What I'm confused, do the people who made this law even know what they're talking about, this law has to be a joke, one would think these types of laws would've gain national attention, I'm still a little fuzzy on this one, so I'll wait.

As a SWAT Medic and former Firefighter/Paramedic, I can tell you with 99% certainty that this news article is fake.  Federal law prohibits EMTs and Paramedics from discriminating against individuals (patients) based on sex, race, age, and any other protected classifications (including sexual preference or orientation).  And even if the State of Michigan did pass this law, the first time an EMT or Paramedic refused to treat someone based on the patient's sexual preferences or the EMT's or Paramedic's own religious preferences, imagine the lawsuits that would follow.  With all that being said, an legislator would be stupid to even try to pass a law such as the one allegedly passed in Michigan.

Well, if politicians were smart, we would know it. I wouldn't be really surprised if it was real, considering the ammount of dumb laws you can find across the world.

EDIT: I'm going to add a few more links talking about it in the first post.

This is more of an opinion, what I've put in bold. I agree that it's retarded to refuse to save someones life because of their sexuality, but whether or not their sexuality is right depends solely on your personal opinion. If it was fact, it wouldn't be a problem.

There are fish in the ocean. This is fact.

Gays should have the right to marry. This is opinion.

I always knew that Michigan was Republican state but never this Republican.  Sign of the times, I guess.

Michigan is the poorest state in the entire country. It's also home to the beautiful and populous city of Detroit.

And I feel like technology is partially the reason. Why should I need to learn how to multiply on paper, when I can hit 3 buttons on a handheld device? Why should I learn how to spell words correctly when spell check will do it anyways? Laziness is on a sharp rise.

Yes.. It is.

See, I Love computers. You can not bring them with you where ever you are.

Phones bring evil to this world. I Go to the fucking dinner table to see my family doing nothing but browsing their damn phones.

See..  I Don't even have a phone. Mine broke a year ago, And i have no more reason for one.

You know. I'm christian. But i'll be damn honest. I Have not gone to church in, well i don't even know.

People are taking religion way to fucking far, as always. And it's coming to the point, where. I Don't even think God would want it to be like this.

This world is the hell it's been since day one, And if anyone expects a change. Become and astronaut and GTFO! Oh wait. We don't have that kind of space program anymore!

STRAP YOURSELF TO A FU**ING ROCKET AND HOLD ON!

What kind of medic can refuse the help to anyone? "Religious belief", what the hell? Say, I'm an atheist and my surgeon is Catholic when I'm in some real trouble?

America turns into Russia real fast. Stop that before you guys enter the same crazy-hatred-filled-middle age-based world.

I don't agree with this law, but I find this very hypocritical that people are rebelling about this. The government can force people and Churches to accept gay marriage but people revolt when someone tries to go in the other direction. So basically, people can force religious people to accept things but religious people can't defend their beliefs. By the way, Christianity doesn't disagree with gay people, but disagrees with gay marriage and sexual acts.

Well, let's be honest there. Allowing gay people to marry and all doesn't really affect anyone's life directly, it's all based on personal beliefs and privacy. This law is opening the way to discrimination, which is affecting someone's life directly, and in some case in a pretty serious way. And it doesn't only work for LGBT people, but also for religions. How would you react if a muslim, jew or hindu doctor refused to give you the proper care just because you're christian and your religion goes against theirs?
