All of the AI vehicles are gone? Absolutely zero traffic but a few peds

Featured Replies

Sorry guys if this is a no-brainer to fix.  A google search & site search yielded no solutions.

For some unknown reason all of the vehicles excerpt an occasional parked car have disappeared.   I have a few peds roaming around but nothing consistent.   My 'Traffic Density' has been adjusted from 0 to 100 with no effect.  After troubleshooting by removing ALL the scripts and even restoring backup files in the Common & PC folders, I am at a total loss here!   I even restored the original Vehicles.img and Weapons.img files thinking this was a memory issue, or the games textures being overloaded, but no solution.   All of my graphic settings are now on LOW and the others at 0...no texture pop-ins whatsoever now. Damn I don't want to re-install...AGAIN!

Can anyone suggest some vehicle related .dat files I can restore back to the original?  I'm hoping I didn't f-up my backup files somehow and save non-original files in their place.

Thanks for any help you all can offer!

Using the .exe that is used to install the game, repair it. this is caused by the problem of rebuilding the car files before saving it when you are trying to mod the game.

Did you close OpenIV/SparkIV before starting the game?? I read somewhere that what you had mentioned happens when you forget to close the car mod installers like sparkIV and open IV. Make sure you close the car installer programs before starting up the game.

I never understood the purpose of rebuilding your vehicles.img after installing a car. What I do is install the car I want, change the texture to the one I want, save and close. I never rebuild the img at all. Try to just install the car, save and close.

just my 2 cents on this. It might or might not work but thought I lend a hand.

Sounds like you've messed up your game (This has happened to me), you may have to reinstall.

You don't have to reinstall. All you have to do is to repair the game using the Installer

i may sound stupid but did you change it with trainer?

corrupted vehicles.img file

get the original and start again

even if you backup your modded one, it will likely not work with a new install of gta. i had that happen too.. game is a buggy pos

hmmm It should work.... weird.... I always back up the modded set up I use. And If I ever reinstall, I just replace the IMG file with no problems. All you need to do is use the setup.exe to repair the game... I have done this more than a 100 times and it still works....

Never tried to repair it..  Backed images work fine with the same installation but when i tried to put them into new ones, they wouldnt. Installing the same content into the virgin ones takes care of it. One of these things i guess

Oh, okay! I see what you're thinking. I will try this first!  Thanks brother, I will let you know the results.

See, I thought of this issue.  I recall checking out the options in OpenIV after adding a new vehicle, I may have even clicked the button in OpenIV to 'RUN GTA' or whatever it says. If I recall correctly, GTA didn't run and I ended up just closing OpenIV via the "x" in the upper corner.  I thought I saved my changes before all of that by backing out of my vehicles.img and into the subdirectory.  This response makes sense also......I will check into this as well!

Nah, that's not stupid at all! I have f-ed many a thing up with SNT.  I don't recall changing anything there....nevertheless, I ended up replacing all of my files in the main folder except Common & PC with working backups.   I like where you are going here though, I will check this also!

Hey all, thank you too everyone for the feedback! You guys never leave a member in need without help.  I really appreciate the overwhelming amount of ideas/responses to this issue.  I'm not in a position right now to try these fixes but I will this evening.   I will post up what fixes it soon. (Hopefully).

Side note:  I even tried the More Liberty Mod, the mod that adds more peds & vehicles. I ended up with a helluva lot of random peds, still not spawning in a consistent manner though, and still ZERO vehicles cruising around.

Like I said earlier, I have removed any Taxi bug fixes, other scripts and the like, and even replaced the vehicle.img with a fresh, untouched version. I'm thinking this rules out the corrupted .img thought.  I am refusing to reinstall just yet! Essentially, I have several working complete backups stored and will take files from there first.

Thanks again all!  I will end my babbling rant and just try everyone's suggestions tonight. Stand-by for results....

GOD DAMNED IT!!!!!  I gave up guys....after replacing EVERY .dat file and EVERY .img file with a verified & working backup, with ZERO success in fixing the problem, I ended up just copying the whole Common and PC folders from a backup over my current files.  I just lost the  backup I made 1 week ago in a hard drive crash and burn a couple of days ago also. I resorted to a backup from October of last year.  I know, yeah, yeah,  not a real big deal....could have been worse...at least I don't have to completely start over kinda a mouth full of shit still.  What pisses me off is the fact I was NEVER able to find out what caused the issue in the first place.  I DID verify that it was not a script issue, not a .img issue, not a .dat file issue in the end. Doesn't leave a whole lot left, eh!   Only thing I can figure is this:  I lost the yellow waypoint line on the HUD for the gps right before this all happened.  Some stuipid HD texture thing I added somewhere I think. I can't help but GUESS that may have been related somehow.   I'm pissed because I literally spent a week troubleshooting over and over in what little free time I had to not figure it out.

Screw it, my game is back now and that is all that REALLY matters.   THANK YOU ALL who tried to help me with this B.S.

See you all in Liberty City!
