After a month of development, Custom Backup is finally here!

Custom backup gives you a new level of control in LSPDFR. The key feature of this mod is regionally customized backup, allowing you to set a different response for any area on the map. For any named area of the game (like "Rockford Hills", "Los Santos International Airport", "Sandy Shores", etc.) you can completely customize every level of response just like the built-in backup.xml. The syntax of the CustomBackup.xml file is very similar to the built-in backup.xml, but has numerous additions to increase your control over the game: 

  • Set a chance for anything! Peds, vehicles, and vehiclesets now all take a chance attribute which controls how likely they are to be chosen. (The built-in backup.xml only lets you set a chance on peds.)
  • Configure vehicle extras, liveries, and colors! You can now set any color you want for any response vehicle, opening up a whole new level of customization for unmarked units. Vehicle extra configuration also works reliably, whereas it seems to have some issues in the built-in backup.xml. 
  • Cop weapon selection! Set a list of weapons to give your backup units, set the probability for each weapon, and decide whether you want them to pick one at random or always get the most powerful one. 
  • Set spawn distance range for each vehicle entry! Every vehicle entry can have a minimum and maximum spawn distance set. This allows for additional realism by making certain units spawn closer or further away. NOOSE SWAT probably isn't just hanging out around the corner, so make them drive in from a mile away. On top of Mt. Chiliad your backup will probably be coming from a long distance, but in Downtown there's probably local patrol units very near by. Your imagination is the limit for leveraging these settings. 
  • Code 2 response with lights! Let's be honest, how often do cops really respond "code 2" with no lights? You can now configure your Code 2 units to respond with lights (but no siren), or to respond with their lights off but turn them on once they arrive and park on scene. YouTube video demo.
  • Integration with Better EMS: Download and install Better EMS, and you can call for an advanced EMS response through the Custom Backup menu. 
  • Integration with Police Smart Radio: Call for backup from your radio! Call Code 2 or Code 3 local backup, or Pursuit and Air Support units.

 

Installation instructions are included in the download. Basic installation is pretty easy; just make sure to choose a CustomBackup.xml file to use and put it in place. Advanced usage of the CustomBackup.xml file is explained in great detail in the documentation PDF. 

INSTRUCTIONS TO OVERRIDE DEFAULT LSPDFR BACKUP MENU:

To completely disable the built-in LSPDFR backup menu and use the custom menu instead, follow these instructions.

  • Edit CustomBackupLocations.ini. Set these settings:
    • CustomBackupMenuKey=B
    • CustomBackupModifier=None
    • OverrideLSPDFRBackup=false
  • Go to the GTA V settings menu 
  • Under Keybindings, go to GTA Online section
  • Change "Look At" from B to something you don't use, like the numpad period

@PNWParksFan whenever I change the controller button to RightThumb, RightThumb doesn't work and somehow the .ini reads it as DPadRight

And what is the ped model for the FIB model with the FIB jacket on?

In the CustomBackupLocations.ini if i want the officers to use the combat pistol, is this correct?

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this already (there are so many comments to read) but is it possible that I found a mistake or 2 in the locations.xlsx ? Or maybe I miss something?

1) The Chilliad Mountains state wilderness (CMSW) area, which is all the way up in Paleto, is in the Los Santos city list?

2) I don't see the area called Chumash in the list. Or is it with some other area together? I do see North-Chumash.

 

Is this me not getting something or are these real?

CMSW is tagged as city by the game for some reason. If you go up there and call for backup using LSPDFR's backup menu, you get city units.

Hi,

I'm trying to add riot police with just nightsticks to control small crowds. Everything works fine, except some of them pull out a gun, because that is the standard weapon. How do I make them all carrying a stick without chancing the default weapon?

The only thing left to do is add in the option to have repelling backup units <3 They have paramedics that repel in as part of the Wilderness Callouts plugin so I believe its possible somehow.

Not possible sadly. LSPDFR always gives every cop a gun and makes them pull it out sometimes, and there's currently no way to disable that behavior.

That would be WWWWOOOONNNDDDEERRRFFFUUULLL. Imagine, there's terrorist activity in the desert and two cargobobs soar over head dropping down ropes and SWAT commanders hit the ground running and gunning. Perhaps that would be what happens when you request a helicopter code 3.

so question, How come when I remove the mod my B key no longer requests backup? I had the overwrite set to false. For the life of me I cant figure out why, none of my other mods seem to have the option to disable backup

check your keybindings, specifically under the section GTA Online, the point at key is probably remapped.

It'd be complicated and pretty "same face"-y, but you could use the mp EUP model components. Though, since they wouldn't be "cop" peds, it might not actually work depending on how LSPDFR handles spawned peds.

Not currently. I've developed the capability for it to work with eup and that'll be included in the next version. However I have to warn you that from my testing, using EUP peds for backup really hits performance hard. The eup outfits are much higher detail than regular peds, so they definitely slow the game down with a lot spawned. You might have better luck just using RDE and the Custom Backup config that comes with it; RDE and EUP uniforms are designed to match so you'd get the same agencies and such with no performance issues.

I really like your work and I want to thank you.

I would like to comment you two minor bug that I found in the latest version (Custom Backup 3.3) and are:

- When I call the suspect to transport both the suspect and I inside the car tells me that a message comes out telling me that it does not detect any suspects, however pressed the 8 key by default Traffic Policer comes to pick it up without problems.

- When I have more than one suspect, for example two and I use Custom Backup 3.3 to call the transport does not ask me as in Traffic Policer if I want multitransport, sending only a car and only to an arrested.

 

- It would be okay to configure in the .ini if when you call the ambulance they want to come alone ambulance or firemen + ambulance

- A pity that you can not improve the AI when you call a code 2 backup when you make a traffic stop, as it is still as little useful as ever.

i changed the back up button to right thumb and now the interacting menu(where you can change available for calls, engine on etc) opens as well as the back up

 

where can i find that interact menu file to change the button

In the custom backup INI, disable OverrideLSPDFRBackup, or whatever the option is called (I forget the exact name).

I'll have to look into the arrest manager integration. It calls the arrest manager API, so I guess it depends on what options that API provides. I'll investigate. 

 

You can configure how EMS should respond, including whether a fire truck comes or not, in the Better EMS INI file, assuming you use Better EMS. If you don't, you should! 

 

As for improving the backup AI... that's something I want to do someday, but I'm not sure when it'll happen. I have some ideas especially for making traffic stop backup better, but it's just that right now - ideas.

i'm getting lower fps with the newer version. the previous version made the game run smooth. Idk why, rage log doesn't show much

 

Could it be that a certain type of combination of plugins is causing this? I'm using some older ones like law callouts
