After a month of development, Custom Backup is finally here!

Custom backup gives you a new level of control in LSPDFR. The key feature of this mod is regionally customized backup, allowing you to set a different response for any area on the map. For any named area of the game (like "Rockford Hills", "Los Santos International Airport", "Sandy Shores", etc.) you can completely customize every level of response just like the built-in backup.xml. The syntax of the CustomBackup.xml file is very similar to the built-in backup.xml, but has numerous additions to increase your control over the game: 

  • Set a chance for anything! Peds, vehicles, and vehiclesets now all take a chance attribute which controls how likely they are to be chosen. (The built-in backup.xml only lets you set a chance on peds.)
  • Configure vehicle extras, liveries, and colors! You can now set any color you want for any response vehicle, opening up a whole new level of customization for unmarked units. Vehicle extra configuration also works reliably, whereas it seems to have some issues in the built-in backup.xml. 
  • Cop weapon selection! Set a list of weapons to give your backup units, set the probability for each weapon, and decide whether you want them to pick one at random or always get the most powerful one. 
  • Set spawn distance range for each vehicle entry! Every vehicle entry can have a minimum and maximum spawn distance set. This allows for additional realism by making certain units spawn closer or further away. NOOSE SWAT probably isn't just hanging out around the corner, so make them drive in from a mile away. On top of Mt. Chiliad your backup will probably be coming from a long distance, but in Downtown there's probably local patrol units very near by. Your imagination is the limit for leveraging these settings. 
  • Code 2 response with lights! Let's be honest, how often do cops really respond "code 2" with no lights? You can now configure your Code 2 units to respond with lights (but no siren), or to respond with their lights off but turn them on once they arrive and park on scene. YouTube video demo.
  • Integration with Better EMS: Download and install Better EMS, and you can call for an advanced EMS response through the Custom Backup menu. 
  • Integration with Police Smart Radio: Call for backup from your radio! Call Code 2 or Code 3 local backup, or Pursuit and Air Support units.

 

Installation instructions are included in the download. Basic installation is pretty easy; just make sure to choose a CustomBackup.xml file to use and put it in place. Advanced usage of the CustomBackup.xml file is explained in great detail in the documentation PDF. 

INSTRUCTIONS TO OVERRIDE DEFAULT LSPDFR BACKUP MENU:

To completely disable the built-in LSPDFR backup menu and use the custom menu instead, follow these instructions.

  • Edit CustomBackupLocations.ini. Set these settings:
    • CustomBackupMenuKey=B
    • CustomBackupModifier=None
    • OverrideLSPDFRBackup=false
  • Go to the GTA V settings menu 
  • Under Keybindings, go to GTA Online section
  • Change "Look At" from B to something you don't use, like the numpad period

@PNWParksFan  I'm slightly confused by "choose a backup.xml."  Currently, I have everything installed.  I have plugins / LSPDFR / CustomBackup, and the CustomBackup.XML within.  Now, is there anything else I need to do with it?  Such as as replace my normal backup.xml, or no?

dont replace it i did that and it brakes the backup menu for custom backup and regular lspdfr backup

Alright.  I'm still having some issues because when I go on duty it just says custom backup couldn't load.  Maybe I edited the XML wrong, not sure.  I'll use the XML that comes with it and see if it works.  If not, oh well.

check your rage log. it normally says why it couldn't be loaded.

I did, but it doesn't give an error. It registers that custom backup is there, but says nothing else.

Hey, how do i get the cops and sheriff to equip the bullet proof vests? I've tried comp_accessories="3" but to no avail.

Basically how do i change "Accessory2"? (as simple native trainer words it) And how do I change the texture of  "Accessory2"?

Unfortunately you can't. LSPDFR constantly resets the components of all cop peds in the game in order to manage their holster. That means any ped you spawn with a bullet proof vest, the vest will be removed within a second or two. There's nothing I can do to fix that.

Damn. Guess i'll be using the default backup menu for local swat then. :P

Been meaning to ask, are you considering putting more customization options into this mod?

It would be nice to specify a spawn for backup (like in better ems).

Also, can air support have another use outside of pursuits.

When i ask them to respond code 2 they have the lights and sirens on and the reason i know is i can hear them all the way down the street lol and it it set on ARRIVAL. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance I love the setup of everything esle I just want to fix this small issue and i am using ESL if that helps.

Most likely an ELS issue. Unfortunately I can't do anything about that, since ELS messes with the lights and sirens in lots of ways which we can't control from scripts.

Odd issue with custom menu entry using Candice's new police command bus - it doesn't respond code 3, even if I call it code 3.  Not sure if that's an issue with custom backup or that model.

Probably ELS. If an ELS vehicle spawns further away from the player than the distance set in the INI, the lights don't work. Try adjusting the minr and maxr in the the custom backup xml.

Maxr is only 200 so I don't think it's that.

if I try to call ems with policesmartradio then it says:

No action has (yet) been assigned to

parkstools/ems_request.No

plugin has assigned itself to

the button, or you may have

gone on duty twice - make sure to go on duty once.....

 

I cant go once on duty because lspdfr crash if try go on duty once and usually it goes on duty  at the second time.

In custom backup I've set backup to only have nightstick & stungun (unless SWAT) but everytime I call backup they keep showing up with pistols still. I can't understand what I've done wrong, help please?

it's because of CustomBackupLocations.ini. Change below to whatever.

This is actually due to LSPDFR itself. LSPDFR will always give every cop ped a pistol (and sometimes a shotgun), and there's nothing that a plugin can do to prevent that. Even if you delete it from their inventory, LSPDFR will add it right back. Whenever cops are in combat it gives them pistols. Sometimes if they have another weapon in their inventory it'll select the other weapon, but it'll always add that pistol back into their inventory regardless.

Anyway to select their vest and accessories? I've added this line to my custom entry but doesn't seem to be working.

 

<Ped accessories="2" gear="2">s_m_y_sheriff_01</Ped>

 

I"m using this ped model and would like their hip holster and vest to be on when arriving. I can select those options from the default "on duty" character selection, so I imagine I'd be able to specify that here?
