I just had steam re-validate the game files or whatever its called. Now whenever i run GTA IV, for more than like 30 seconds i get a crash to desktop, with the following error message:

GTA IV FATAL ERROR: SMPA60
- GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Unrecoverable fault - Please restart the game

Any ideas?

I think that SMPA60 has to do something with car mods... I read it somewhere a while ago. I think that you have way too much car mods, you installed incorrectly a car, or installed incorrectly a custom car(made by player).

I thought that was the save-game one? Where certain data will freak out the game. Try a previous save or a new game.

SMPA60 is when you have a car at a safe house and then you replace that car but the game still tries to load the old one and then it crashes. Only way to fix it is to replace the old car, move it from the safe house, save, then replace.

I wonder if i can real quick drive the car out of the save spot, then resave? i'll try that right now. But yeah, i wanted the orignal cars back, haha.

Ok that seems to have worked. What i did was loaded the game, moved the car out of the save area, then saved the game again. No crash :)

That's what I did one time to fix an error like that.

Looks like this is solved now.
